Big Al’s Blog: It just feels good to do something nice for a stranger

People are interesting. That might be why I bought dinner for a random dude on Saturday night. It wasn’t like the conversation that we had was the start of a new Bro-mance or anything. In fact, I’m not sure that I remember his name. It might have been Hank. But anyway, my girlfriend and I went to dinner on Saturday night. We were walking down the street and saw this cool new place. We walked in and the place looked pretty cool and happening. Then as we were walking toward the bar, one of the greeter/host guys walks up to me and said, “Sir, I’m going to have to ask you to take your hat off.” I wasn’t going to make an issue out of it. So, we walked right back out. I know some places have different rules about hats…and I don’t have an issue with that. And I have my rules too…after picking out my hat for the night and coordinating my hat with my shirt, I really don’t like taking it off.

big-al-blog-pic-041315Call me High Maint, but that’s just me. I take it off when I go to church, I take it off when the National anthem is being sung…and that’s about it! Anyway, We had been looking forward to checking out this new place but oh well. So, we picked up our disappointment and walked across the street to another nice spot. That’s where we met Hank. Hank was a cool guy. He was sitting at the bar having dinner alone. So my girlfriend and I began chatting with him. And after about an hour or so, for some reason, I felt like paying for Hank’s dinner. It wasn’t like Hank couldn’t afford it. Sometimes it just feels good to do something nice for a stranger. Hopefully, Hank continues this chain and buys dinner for someone down the line.
