Big Al’s Blog: Job Search Tips

Big Al’s Tip of the Day: When you are applying for a job, there are certain things that you should do and certain things that you should not do. For example, if you are going to be filling out an application, always carry a pen into the business with you so that you do not have to ask for one. No employer wants to fumble around looking for something that simple when you knew when you walked into the place that you were going to be writing in the first place. Secondly, NEVER go and apply for a job with friends or family. First of all, WHY whould you? For Support? NOOO. Filling out a job application is NOT a girls day out! I can’t tell you how many times this has happened and the first thing that comes to my mind is, Wow, not only is this person unemployed, but her friends don’t have jobs either. That is a Big, Giant Red Flag! And Lastly, When you are applying for a job at a bar or restaurant, Don’t order a cocktail while you are filling out the application! Is it that hard to curtail your drinking for 20 minutes. In fact, even when you have finished the application, don’t sit around there and start drinking 5 minutes later. If you are doing these things, you need to examine yourself. It might not be that no one is hiring. It is probably just something really simple. No One is hiring YOU! Why is this fresh on my mind? Because someone came into my bar a couple of days ago that basically violated all three of these simple rules. I hope she’s not expecting a call back. OK, Enough of my $1 wisdom.

big-al-after-surgeryMy Knee surgery went pretty well. I am hobbling a little better each day. I am definitely glad that I had the surgery and that is something that I never thought that I would be saying. But hopefully, in about a week or so, I will be back to my regular walk. And I’ll be able to get back on the treadmill and get back into the swing of things.

Halloween is 2 weeks away and I have no idea what, if any, costume that I’m going to try to put together. At this point, the pressure is on for me to make a decision today or tomorrow. And do I get a couples costume or at least try to put together some sort of theme for the 2 of us? Ugh, pressure.
