The Goal Is To “Motivate”
The Goal Is To “Motivate”

I will be meeting with an employee today. Let’s call him Frank. The goal is to hopefully “motivate” him into getting on track. I hate to just throw away employees that have potential. He has gotten off track and made some serious mistakes. But haven’t we all?

My hope is to turn him around and (hopefully) get him back on track. He started out well and somehow, got sideways and twisted. His performance has dropped way off and some of the other employees don’t even like working with him. He’s very young and basically doing what a LOT of young employees do… But I think he’s got some “good” inside him. Maybe, it was lack of supervision/training on my part. Maybe it was lack of motivation on his part. Clearly, he needs a kick in the butt. And that is what I will provide today. I even have commissioned Nate, a former bus/barback, that worked his butt off and is now a bartender and who I consider a very responsible and trustworthy employee. But he has had his issues as well. That’s why I want him to speak to Frank as well. Wish us luck!
