Kiddnation

I was catching up on message board reading. There was a thread a little while ago about dog attacks.

Found an interesting site - http://www.dogsbite.org/bite-statistics.htm

While I think that most dogs will not be violent with proper training and socialization, some breeds are more prone to attack - simply because their breed has been shaped by specific breeding techniques trying to achieve specific traits.

Anyway, my .02

Biters are 2.8 times as likely to be chained as unchained

I found this to be an interesting stat. Do you think it is because they are chained because the owner knows they are dangerous, or that the chain contributes to the dog's frustration, so it lashes out??

I actually think it's some of both.

You chain it because the dog's dangerous.
The chain makes the dog MORE dangerous.
So...are you going to take the chance and not chain a dangerous dog?

It's an interesting dilemma.

Then there are the ones that are chained because they are stictly outside dogs and they keep escaping from the back yard so the owner chains them up back there. I hate to see this though and that is when I wonder if it could make them become dangerous when they may not have been before.
