My last day at my job is April 3rd. They decided that I did not have enough experience for the role. I was mad at first and felt betrayed since they asked me to step into the role. I started applying all over the place. I got an interview at a great company and got an offer. A company that had way better benefits than mine and was closer to home. My commute now is an hour, the new commute will be 10 minutes. They also are giving me a huge increase over what I am making now. They have a great onboarding process and have made me feel welcome before my 1st day. This is my dream job. I am leaving a company that did not appreciate me for a new adventure. Good things can come. I did not have the guts to try something new until they gave me the boot.

I think most people don't have the guts to leave a sure thing for the unknown. Congrats on landing a new job .. and better at that! Way to go Kbear!

Oops, I have a good experience for this but it is 19 months ago, so nevermind, but it is why I really believe getting fired can be a step up and usually is.

My story started by finding out I going to be fired by a co-worker, who had been informed by our boss. The Boss had told her to get my replacement ready to take my position a week from that day. The Co-worker hesitated in telling me, but wanted to let me know so I could start looking for a new job. I confronted my Boss three days later, he had the deer in the headlights look as I asked him about the "rumor" I had heard. He had the audacity to tell me that because "I was a Single Mom, I couldn't give the Company what they wanted. In the long run being fired would be better." I was clocking 45-50 hours including weekends and was shocked that he actually used my Son as the excuse to let me go... not anything that had to do with my actual job performance. After going to the EOE in Downtown Dallas, I found out that being a Single Mom was not a REAL group that could be discriminated against under the law. I spent 45 days looking for a new career.... and a few days after I attended a job fair I started my dream job. The best thing that came out of my unemployment days, was the opportunity to spend quality time with my toddler Son. Lots of Barney and Blues Clues were watched, but the bond we have today was strengthened during that time. My new career is a blessing is so many ways, the field I work in is essentially recession-proof... everybody needs what I sell. The hours are very accomadating, so if I need to take off I can some weeks. The most gratifying part my new career is the fact that every night I can come home and feel good about the services I provided a family. For the first time in my life, I go home without stress! That's worth a million bucks in my book. Times are tough, dwelling on the should of's, would of's, could of's will never get you anywhere. Like someone else said... when one door closes, one more opens!

Laid off??? ahh!! I was fired for asking a male employee if he called me a "b", apparently a customer overheard me... I quickly found a new bartending/serving gig... I now make double the money in a much happier environment and no one calls me a "b"!!

Well I was "laid off" from my job back in february and I would say it was quite a shocker not only to my husband and myself, but to everone at work as well. It was so random, they let me and another girl go at the same time and we both had tons of customers and orders to take care of. It wasn't a we have to let you go, you have a week to get everything together, or we have to let you go clear out your desk by the end of the day, no. It was 2:00pm and they said we had to leave immediately with no real explanation other than they couldn't afford us, even though we were both pulling in a lot of money and customers loved us. They ended up letting 2 other ladies go the week after which took that branch from 16 people to 12. Well we calculated everything and we were able to make it (barely) for me to stay at home with my son. Since then I've been able to pick back up on my photography which is some extra income and I'm doing something I love! I also get to keep my house clean so I'm not afraid of people stopping by unannounced ha. Anyways it truly turned out to be something great!

My company have had a few layoff recently and they are holding all raise. We are not sure what is going on but they have move the networking from our location to another location. I have not gotten fire, but I'm not waiting for that to happen. I've started Aucsome.com in hope of not having to worry about losing my job. It allows me to continue working while I have it and start my new life in what I hope is a better direction. I trying to be proactive instead of being reactive. Now, I know how hard it is to start an online business.

I got fired 3 years to the date of being hired. Although I've been contemplating quitting for some time, I never could. I hated my job, but it was a job. Paid the bills, and paid very well. It was stupid of me to quit. Luckily for me, getting fired was the best thing to happen to me. At the time, it was pretty devastating, and I wasn't really sure what I was going to do. My fiance (wife now) and I were in the process of buying a house. Plus I just bought a car about a year earlier. I went from making $16 an hour to nothing. I was completely lost. I didn't go to college and just went into the work force. I worked in a warehouse for a big box home improvement center, and didn't really get alot of skills from that. I joined the unemployment field with absolutely no skills, and no degree. I was walked out of my job with about one hour of the work day left. I was fired under some pretty suspicious succumb stances, and they made me work all day before they did indeed fire me. I sat in the parking lot for an hour and waited for friends, and my fiancee, to come out. It did make me feel good seeing everyone, and hearing them tell me that I was better then this job, but at the time, it was still tough. What was worse, was I had plans for a vacation down in my home town of Cape May, NJ, to see some old friends. Although I didn't want to, my family and friends insisted that I still go. I am happy that they did. That trip showed me that it wasn't the end of the world and that I could over come this. And boy did I. Withing three weeks, I had myself a new job, working for a small Cable Company in my area. It was my kinda job. Office job, great people, and better yet, FREE CABLE! For the first time in about a year or so, I was happy going to work. I enjoyed it, and didn't moan and groan the whole time I was there. It was great. I was just on cloud nine. About three months later, My fiancee and I bought our house, got married, and now have a baby on the way! From the outside looking in, I'm sure that none of this has to do with getting fired. But it does. I worked with my fiancee, and our relationship was really straining, between my unhappyness at work, and just working together. The moment I was fired, my whole life turned around. Moral of the story? Keep your chin up, there is always something out there for you.

I wasnt fired but i was layed off from a job i had with the railroad. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. the job required me to be on call 24/7/365. i was called almost everyday (before the economy went south) and often twice a day. This put a major strain on me and my wife as we just had our second child. I was home about 7 hrs a day and usually spent that sleeping. After a year and a half our relationship feel apart. Shortly after me and about 10 others were layed off. I spent the next two months trying everything i could to win my wife back. IT WORKED!!! Now I am working a 40 hr work week and we have never been better as far as the relationship goes. Finances are alot tighter but that just goes to show you that money isint everything!!!!
