I KNEW that's where that pic was taken! I've gone over the hill to Reno MANY times, and my brain locked in on it, recognizing, ya know? I can still picture some of my favorite rock formations from Truckee through to Boomtown. Some jagged, some smooth. Sweet!
Looks like you're heading to the snow. I love the pass, and with the train paralleling the road, cutting through the cliffs and tunnels. I'd love to take that train ride. Even the Boomtown area is weird though. You come from/out of jagged rocks and mountains on CA side and then enter this flat, almost treeless crest. Next stop, the Biggest Little City in the World.
