J-Si’s Blog: You were supposed to be napping!

We all have that memory from childhood that will never leave our head. Personally, I hope my son does not remember some of the things that have happened to him during his young life. Like when I accidentally kicked a ball in the backyard and it hit him right in the face, or when he pooped on the plane, or what happened while he was supposed to be napping.

picking-up-toysIt was the middle of the day. Kinsey put Chloe in her crib for her afternoon nap. Cason had passed out on the couch. Instead of picking him up and putting him in his crib, I let him take his nap there. He looked to comfortable. So I grabbed his teddy bear and his ninja turtle blanket, and covered him up. I walked to our bedroom where Kinsey was picking up some toys, since they are all over the house. A guy is very easy to rile up sometimes. Ok, all the time. Something about the way Kinsey picked the Mickey Mouse tool belt got me thinking… we have some time for mommy/daddy time! Sure, we could wait until the end of the day, but most of the time we end up falling asleep because all of our energy has been spent. So I made an attempt, I gave her the look and said, “what up girl?” It was a 50/50 shot. It worked.

So there we are, trying to have a romantic moment together, trying to keep that flame alive, which becomes tough to do when you have children, but find a way… or find some time and energy. So our mommy/daddy “conversation” ended and we were just on the bed doing some cuddling action, Kinsey and I in the facing each other. Something caught my eye. More like someone. Cason’s little head was peeking through the slightly opened door. He wasn’t moving, he was just staring at us. It was slightly creepy. How long had he been there? I have no idea. When he noticed I saw him, he got a big smile on his face, and said, “mama ok?” I didn’t know if we should laugh, scream, cry… all seemed appropriate. Kinsey was the first to speak, “yeah, mama is ok, we were playing.” He looked confused then smiled again and said “oh!”, then he pulled his undies off and said, “I wanna play too!” as he ran onto the bed and starting mimicking what he must have seen, letting me know that he had been there for quite a while. Great…
