Jenna’s Blog: Instagram injury. Painting nudes

No, the two things don’t go together. I have serious pain in my left wrist and it’s going to inhibit my foray into nude portrait work. I intend to be the artist, NOT the model. More on that later. For the last two weeks, my wrist has been killing me. I was reaching into my backseat to grab my purse, and I shrieked with pain. What did I do?

I haven’t been lifting much lately so it’s definitely not a workout injury. I haven’t lifted up any babies. I most certainly haven’t been doing any housework. Then I’m laying in my bed on Thanksgiving night and start scrolling through my Instagram and BOOM! The most intense pain I’ve felt in my wrist yet takes over. I drop my phone and realize, “Instagram caused my wrist injury!”

instagram_iphone6Sadly, I’m not exaggerating. This iPhone 6 is a little too large for my hands and in order to one-hand it, I have to strain my thumb a little to reach across the screen. The scrolling motion is what really did me in. I can’t believe this has happened almost as much as I can’t believe I’m admitting that it happened. Honestly, I don’t even use my phone that much. I know you’re thinking that’s a lie, because I’m a girl and I must be using it enough to get injured, but I really don’t spend that much time on my phone. Well, I at least don’t text that much. I don’t play games either. I realized that I spend a lot of time on my “hand-HELL device” online shopping. The motion is exactly the same! Thumb scroll, thumb scroll. I do thumb scroll a lot. I need thumb therapy. I have to get it together for my nude portrait session. I need a full range of motion for that undertaking. More on that tomorrow:)
