I realize how much I really matter by the number of people I call when I get home from being out of town.
That would equal 1. don’t get me wrong, I REALLY, REALLY matter to that one person, my mother…but not so much to anyone else. (pity party time!) When the plane landed yesterday from mexico, it was like a montage of those sounds that phones make when you turn them on and those alert sounds that they make when you have a text or a voice mail. I turned mine on and I am pleased to say I didn’t disturb one other person on the flight.

Otherwise, mexico was great. I got there on thanksgiving night and the bar had a decent crowd. The next morning I had a meeting with the manager and we decided to part ways. This move was pretty much planned before I got there but it was cemented by the fact that the bar’s “cash on hand” supposedly equaled the amount of cash that we made the night before. Very hard to believe but that was his story. So after a 1 hour meeting with him, I told him that I would manage the bar. We’ll see how that goes. Actually, the assistant manager, edith, who is also a bartender, has been trying very hard at her job and has a lot of enthusiasm so we are going to give her a shot to see what she can do. Its all about giving a person a chance. Trust me, I know. I wouldn’t be where I am if kidd had not given me a chance years ago.

So Friday morning at nine, I had an appointment with the corona beer people. They have agreed to give us a loan to make some improvements and some remodeling. This meeting lasted about an hour and of course all of the documents were in Spanish. So manuel, my “power of attorney” that I have met twice in my life, and edith were at this meeting as well. After edith looked everything over and they explained the terms to me, manuel and I signed. Manuel apparently has to sign everytime I do anything in mexico. I can do anything I want in playa del Carmen, but when it comes time to do a money transaction, its like he just appears out of nowhere.
We left there and went to the bank. Me, edith and manuel. We wait for 30 minutes and finally its our turn. We sit there and they start speaking Spanish like im not even there. They start copying documents of ours and they are still speaking Spanish. Edith tries to explain in her broken English whats going on. Managers come over. Other employees come over. Its like this check from corona was the talk of the bank. After we had been there and looked at papers for two hours, it was time for manuel to sign on the papers for MY bank account! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, manuel signature is the one that matters. I put edith on there as well just to ease my mind. That’s when I found out that despite the fact we had done all of this, the bank account would not be functional for about 5 days. But don’t worry, the bank said they would take good care of the money until I got back.
Wasn’t that nice of them???

Hope everyone had a great turkey weekend! Talk to you tomorrow.
