Seems like all we ever see is hate

12 dead, including the gunner
Money troubles led to one mans insanity
What's the world coming to, it makes you wonder
Watching hours of news, makes you lose all hope
You lose faith in humanity, how will we ever cope?
But you turn off the tv and you go outside
Fear for you lives cause it's not safe, stay inside
Don't trust anyone, it's an evil world
Keep to yourself, they keep telling us and telling us

We keep being fed with everything that's going wrong
And you wonder why some people lose hope
Feel so helpless, we're too busy chasing ghosts
Buy this, eat here, this will make you happy
The line between wants and needs keep getting blurrier
The idea of intimacy is typing 50 words a minute
Forget about calling, just send me a text
A smile and hug is being replaced by words and emoticons
And people still wonder why there is such a disconnect going on
Faith has been lost in the government, the youth could care less
Being apathetic is in, down with politicians and the government

It's a scary thing to think about when the youth don't care
They are the one's who can change it, the potential is there
Instead they live behind their phones and games
School is a drag, hard work is pointless, it's all about the fame
5 minutes of glory, put some money in their hand
Everything is entitled, hard work is a sham
In school we are taught to memorize and regurgitate
No critical thinking or problem solving, no discussions or debates
Is it just me, or is the US getting dumber? (2008)
Some may argue it's skewed and someone manipulated the numbers

From the inside looking out, the problems are missed
But from the outside lookin in, we're all a bunch of misfits
Who cares what others think, they don't really know
Isn't it ironic that we're taught to hate others, to hell they can go
It's all about getting what's yours, screw the others and the rest
It doesn't matter what it takes or who you hurt in the end
How much longer will we, we the people decide we've had enough?
When will we stop placing blame and pointing fingers at each other?
When will we stand up and fight and fix what's going wrong
And stop feeling so helpless, I believe that time has come

With our backs against the wall, will you fight or give up?
Will you continue to get pummeled, or say enough is enough?
Will you stop feeling helpless and break the cycle of fear?
Will you help teach our kids that this all stops right here?
Will you answer the call to act, rather than be a spectator?
Will you stop waiting for the world to change and do something about it?
Will you stop putting off what you can do today until tomorrow?
Before it's too late and all your left with is broken promises?
Things won't change unless we act
