Big Al’s Blog: A Revolving Door
Big Al’s Blog: A Revolving Door

MAAAAAAAANNNNNNN….The first weekend of the new restaurant is done! And it was a rough one. Not just the new place opening up but dealing with the old place, McKinney Avenue Tavern. It combined with getting the new place, Scoreboard Grille, off the ground, it was just a beating. But, with all of that said, we survived!

The biggest issue that I had was with getting the new employees at the old bar in place…. Or maybe I should say, keeping them in place. During the past 2 weeks, it’s been a revolving door.

big-al-blog-032116-picSunday morning, I found out that the person that I just hired 3-4 days ago quit. I was training this person to be bartender/manager. How did I find out that she quit? Well, My girlfriend told me. How did she find out? One of the waitresses told her. How did the waitress find out? The other bartender told her. Can a person not tell the person that hired them that they quit? I have to find out 3 people down the line. It was like a bad game of telephone. So, Sunday morning, at 11am, I have no bartender. But I did have a video game repair guy at the bar who showed up to fix my Golden Tee game. So, that was good. And my shave appointment was at noon. Priorities, right? Another bartender sent me a text at around 11:30a saying that she forgot to set her alarm. I couldn’t even be mad at her because she had worked about 5 straight days of double shifts. So, I asked the Golden Tee repair guy if he could hang out at the bar until my bartender arrived. He agreed. I drove down the street and saw one of my regular customers walking toward the bar. I stopped and told him to please go to the bar and hang out with the Golden Tee repair guy until the bartender got there. He agreed. So, the two of them were pretty much in charge. Then, the repair guy sent me a text saying that a few customers were showing up. He made their drinks. Still no bartender. Well, Golden tee guy was there. Then a food tour group rolls in. Still no bartender. FUN STUFF! Like I said, we survived. The bartender showed up about 30 minutes later.

Lots of fun stuff but if you are needing a job, come see me!
