Chicago was a pretty cool city

Chicago wasn’t all that windy. But it was a little rainy. My girlfriend lives in Detroit now so we decided to meet in a place that neither of us had ever been. I’ve always heard that Chicago was a pretty cool city.

big-al-blog-100316-300x300We arrived Friday evening around 6p. Then, after a moment or two in the room, we hit the hotel bar for a drink. Even though we were both pretty tired, we had to at least walk around the town for a minute or two. So we did. I wish we lived in a world where you didn’t have to be worried about what’s going to happen on any given night. This was the first time in a long time that I had been in a place that I had never been and knew NOTHING about. So, even though I wanted to explore and see the sights, In the back of my mind, I couldn’t help but wonder if we were walking too far in any given direction.

Anyway, we walked around in what was probably a big circle and ended up at a place called Lou Malnati’s pizza. Sure we had to have some deep-dish pizza in Chicago. That’s pretty much where we ended up for the night.

The next day, it was a little rainy so we stayed at the hotel until almost noon and then, it was time to walk again. We didn’t really know where we were going but everyone told me to make sure that we saw the BEAN. So after a couple of mimosas, we did. It’s in the middle of this big park and the Bean, is actually a huge piece of art. It’s giant Chrome “Bean.” It about the most touristy thing that I have done for a while. People from all over are taking pics of this big Bean. OK…So we did too.

Later that night, we paid $12 to listen to some blues at this place called Blues Chicago. And we ended Saturday night with some late night “to go” food from Dublin’s. And just like that, the quick get away weekend was over. But it was a LOT of fun and hopefully, next time; I’ll get to do more of the stuff that weather prevented us from doing this time.
