Big Al’s Blog: Kidd’s Kids Fundraiser & Miniature Horses

There are still nice and thoughtful kids and parents out there. Yesterday, we did this fundraiser for Kidd’s Kids at my bar. Stevie Jo Rosenbaum from last season of “The Voice” performed for about an hour or so and Kidd’s daughter, Caroline, even joined in to sing a few songs with him as well. But the big surprise of the evening came when Clair, a little 6-year-old girl introduced herself to me. She then told me that she had a birthday party not too long ago and she asked for her friends to donate to Kidd’s Kids instead of buying gifts for her. A very sweet gesture. And props to her parents for allowing her to do this. But wow…How surprised were we to learn that in the little envelopes in her little hands were donations that totaled $6,050! I mean everyone applauded and cheered for her. It was a great moment. Way to go Clair and way to go Clair’s Parents!!!

miniature-horsesOk, let’s go from something nice and sweet to my sweet girlfriend. Isn’t it amazing how we as grown adults can learn stuff even after we have gone through school, college and life? In fact, I think we will explore this tomorrow and have people complete this sentence…”I’m ____years old and I just learned that ______. Here is the little nugget that spawned this thought. I was having a conversation with my girlfriend yesterday and I said to her, “How about a pony??? Everyone loves ponies.” I know this is random but let’s go with it. She replied with, What do Miniature horses have to do with anything? I’m sure that there are a few people that don’t love Miniature horses.” Then the debate started as I told her that a pony was a young horse, not a miniature horse like at the fair. She fired back with a stern “NO. A pony is a miniature horse.” Keep in mind that my girlfriend is a college graduate and she has been through years of medical school and she is now a Doctor. And she doesn’t know that a pony is a young horse! But she’s really hot, so it’s ok!
