Big Al’s Blog: Step in and do something

Let’s look out for one another. Not only this holiday weekend, but always. This dude was in the bar last night and I have no idea where he was before or how much he had to drink but he clearly did not need to drive. Maybe he had taken a pill or something??? There’s no way to know.

alcohol-300x300So, I talked with him for a minute… or I tried to. He was a friendly drunk but clearly, he didn’t need to drive. I kept asking if he had a ride and he pointed to everyone in the bar… But no one knew him. After noticing his cell phone was blowing up, I asked if I could call whoever it was that was texting him. He agreed. I did… No Answer.

So, I sent a text to this person telling them that their friend was drunk. They seemed confused as to what I was trying to say. I tried to explain in 4 or 5 different texts that I owned the bar where their friend was and asked if they could come get him. Their last text to me was, “Do what you need to do.” What an awesome friend!!!

Fortunately, the guy did give me his car keys and I still have them now. I guess I’ll see him a little later today. If you see someone that doesn’t need to drive, step in and do something. We’ve all been there and we all know someone that has been affected by a drunk driver in some way. And if someone asks for your keys, give them to that person. They aren’t trying to be mean… They are trying to save your life.
