The Double Vacation
The Double Vacation

Well, I did it. The double vacation was awesome. The first stop was just outside of Charleston, South Carolina in a little town called Seabrook Island. A good buddy of mine just built a house there and invited me to hang out with him, his family and friends. They treated me like a king. They had the entire 3 days planned out with a few stops as soon as I landed at the airport. The South is such an awesome part of the country but good friends make it even better. The second day, I actually slept in which is something that I rarely do. And there were 2 fireworks shows as well as a parade that was so fun because of its simplicity. Overall, it was a GREAT start to the vacation week.

Then, it was off to Playa del Carmen. This was a very different vacation. I had “invited” listeners to meet me if they wanted and we would hang out together. Even though, 8 people had said they were coming, I only saw 6 of them but that was fine. We had an awesome time. The first night, 3 of the 6 of us went out together and bounced around from place to place. It rained like heck but we dealt with it. We even picked up two other girls from Chicago along the way. We hit it pretty hard until about 2am.

The next day, I didn’t leave the hotel room until around noon. I realized that I had maybe stayed out a little too late the night before. I think it was about noon or so that I ran into J-Si and Kinsey. So we all goofed around for a bit and rinse, lather, repeat. With one exception…this night was a lot earlier for me. In fact, I called it a night around 7pm. The group did go out without me but I was beat and didn’t get out until going to get something to eat around Midnight. And then on Saturday, We all hung out and walked the streets of Playa del Carmen and I showed them a few spots. It was nothing real crazy. We just ate and drank and watched UFC. I think overall, everyone had a great time and no one displayed any cray-cray behavior. And, I would do vacation like that again.

The weirdest thing that happened was actually at the Cancun airport while we were waiting to board our flight. We were just standing there and the fire alarm went off but only for about 10 seconds and it shut off. So no huge deal, right? Then a few seconds later, we looked up and people were running towards us. Like people were in full stride, maybe a couple hundred people were running toward us. What did the rest of us do? Well, first we got out of the way. Then we joined in the escape. People were knocking over people, suitcases were hitting the ground, sodas and coffees were hitting the floor. It was chaos. About 10-15 of us (including me) hid behind a customer service counter. We were ON THE FLOOR, huddled together, hiding. I was fully expecting to see a dude with a gun. But we had no idea. People were crying, panicked, texting, it was crazy. Then after a minute of hiding, the group of 15 that I was in made our way to the end of the terminal… with the other people that had been running. Then, about 2-3 minutes later, the airport people said it was ok to come back in. We cautiously came back in but people are still very rattled. We heard that there was a small fire but I’m still not sure. But even if there was, I have no idea how that translated into a MASS exit. But it was probably one of the scariest 5 minutes of my life.
