Weekend box office results. Why was Diddy let out of jail?! Kanye’s wife makes a scene on the red carpet. A big Grammy night for Beyoncé. And the first court date for Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively!

The Captain Underpants spinoff Dog Man debuted in first place this weekend with $36M. Audiences are loving it, giving it an “A” on CinemaScore. Rotten Tomatoes’ critics are on board, too. It’s certified fresh with 77% positive reviews. Coming in second was the new sci-fi thriller Companion, which opened with $9.5M. Critics ADORE it — 94% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. It got a B+ Cinemascore, but that’s actually high for a horror movie. Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King is still hanging in there, coming in at No. 3 in its seventh weekend of release with another $6.1M. Fourth place went to One of Them Days with $6M, and Flight Risk rounded out the top five with $5.6M.

Under the cloak of darkness, Diddy was taken from his jail cell to the Brooklyn Hospital Center for an MRI on his knee. Contrary to speculation that he was injured in a prison fight, sources say this is a pre-existing knee injury that was causing Diddy a lot of pain. He was back in his cell before dawn. Diddy’s had a long history of knee problems. In 2020, he said he’d just undergone his 4th surgery in two years. He blamed it on being accident-prone, saying he’s clumsy and trips and falls a lot.

Kanye West and his wife Bianca Censori made a very dramatic appearance on the Grammys red carpet. Lip readers say Kanye instructed Bianca to “make a scene” before she turned her back to the cameras, dropped her full-length furry coat, and showed her naked backside through a completely sheer dress. This was apparently an attempt by Kanye and Bianca to recreate the cover art for his Vultures 1 album. Bianca then turned around and gave us all a full frontal view. Despite reports that police escorted the couple off the red carpet, K&B simply walked back to their chrome-plated car and left. And despite reports that Kanye wasn’t invited, his song Carnival was nominated for Best Rap Song. But Kanye hasn’t been to a Grammys ceremony since 2015.

The Recording Academy finally gave Beyoncé her long-awaited Album of the Year Grammy for Cowboy Carter. She also won Country Album of the Year and — with Miley Cyrus — Best Country Duo/Group Performance. With 3 wins, that gives Beyoncé a total of 35 Grammys, extending her lead as the most-awarded artist in the Recording Academy’s history. Women pretty much dominated the night, winning almost every televised award except for Bruno Mars’ shared win with Lady Gaga, whose song Die With a Smile won Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group, and Kendrick Lamar, who won Record and Song of the Year for his Drake diss track, Not Like Us. Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Music Video. Sabrina Carpenter won Best Pop Vocal Album for Short n’ Sweet and Best Pop Solo Performance for Espresso. Best Rap Album went to Doechii for Alligator Bites Never Heal. And congratulations to Chappell Roan for winning Best New Artist. She used her acceptance speech to ask that music labels give developing artists a livable wage and healthcare, saying, “Labels, we got you, but do you got us?”

Lawyers for It Ends with Us co-stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni are set to clash in federal court today in their first pretrial hearing. Blake is asking the judge to slap Justin’s attorney Bryan Freedman with a gag order. Team Lively is not too happy with his appearances on talk shows and the launch of TheLawsuitInfo.com over the weekend. If you’ve got hours to spare, you can go through 168 pages of Justin’s receipts, dating back to his first emails with author Colleen Hoover to Blake’s most recent accusations of Justin using bots to smear her. The judge will also rule on whether Mr. Freedman can personally depose Blake, a move her legal team strongly opposes.
