Unexpected box office win. Heidi Klum returns to Project Runway. The Weeknd is over. Our Top 10 albums. Wildfires delay Hollywood releases and events.

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera starring Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr. debuted in first place this weekend with $15.5M, which was actually on the higher end of expectations. Mufasa landed in second with another $13.5M in its fourth weekend of release. The Lion King prequel had a $200M budget. So far it’s earned $189M here at home and $500M around the world. Coming in third was Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with $11M. Meantime, the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man — in which Robbie is portrayed by a CGI monkey — couldn’t have bombed harder. It opened with $1M for a 14th place finish. Before they blame it on the fact that Robbie isn’t as well known here in the US as he is in England, Better Man opened over there with $1.9M and has earned just $4.7M to date. It was independently produced for $110M and bought by Paramount for $25M.

Project Runway was Heidi Klum’s baby. She launched it in 2004 and continued to host it until 2017, when she and Tim Gunn left to do Making the Cut for Amazon. But eight years later, Heidi is returning to the fold! Heidi will be back to host Project Runway at some point this year, when the show jumps over to Freeform for a 10-episode run. I’m not going to waste one minute of energy trying to find Freeform because the show will be available to stream the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.

This may be all she wrote for The Weeknd! He releases his sixth studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, on Jan. 24, which may be his last as The Weeknd. After been making several posts on social media about “closing this chapter, Variety asked him what he means by that. He responded, “I would say my existence as The Weeknd.” So this doesn’t mean he will stop performing; he’ll just go back to the name his mama gave him, Abel Tesfaye. Meantime, he still has to promote Hurry Up Tomorrow. Four months after the album drops, his film of the same name will be released.

Just to get people riled up AGAIN, Rolling Stone is out with their 250 Greatest Albums of the 21st Century So Far. Just out of curiosity, I looked up No. 250 and it was No Strings Attached by ‘Sync. Without listing them all, I’ll give you the Top 10 on this completely opinion-based list:

The Golden Globes were held on Sunday, Jan. 5. They ended just 38 hours before the wildfire nightmare began. The wildfires have led to the cancellations of movie premieres and the postponement of other scheduled events. Last night’s Critics Choice Awards have been postponed until Jan. 26, for now. Everything is subject to change. Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, was supposed to premiere this Wednesday, but has now been pushed back to March 4. Jimmy Kimmel Live! suspended production last Wednesday, but they plan to resume filming today.
The 30th annual Critics Choice Awards ceremony has been postponed from January 12th to January 26th due to the catastrophic fires ravaging Southern California.
