CBS gives Jeff Probst his walking papers…Bachelor bad girl Tierra gets her engagement ring after all…and Lady Gaga is going under the knife! That and more in today’s Showbiz Top 5.
Poor Jeff Probst. He’s charmed us as the host of the long-running “Survivor,” but he couldn’t bring that same magic to daytime TV. CBS has canceled Jeff’s talk show after just one season, but the production will continue and we’ll still get some more new episodes before season one is done for good. Last week, it was announced that Ricki Lake’s second stab at a talk show was also canceled after just one season. But Katie Couric is doing a happy dance. Her new daytime talk show pulled enough numbers and will live to see another year.
Taylor Swift loves her a bad boy. I wonder if she’ll be trying to hook back up with her ex now that he’s got a criminal record. Conor Kennedy was arrested outside the White House yesterday for protesting against the proposed Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. And his daddy can’t even be mad at him because Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was arrested right alongside his son. The two of them were driven down to the police station, paid their fine and were released.
Bachelor cast-off Tierra and her eyebrow told us that men love her. She told us she could get any man to marry her. And now it looks like she was telling the truth! Maybe. I’m not sure I’m buying it. But Tierra’s brother says it’s true. His little sister Tierra is engaged to some guy she was seeing before she took off for “The Bachelor.” Apparently he was heartsick that Tierra may find love with Bachelor Sean, so he was begging ABC to tell him where she was. And just as he was about to buy a ticket to St. Croix, that was the same exact day that Sean kicked Tierra to the curb. Coincidence??? Big brother says Tierra and this mystery man reunited in November and I guess after watching her sparkle on national TV, he decided it was time to pop the question with a knuckle-to-knuckle sparkler — a four-carat yellow diamond surrounded by a set of white diamonds.
It was worse than Lady Gaga thought. She has to have surgery to repair a tear in her right hip and she’ll need a lot of time to recover, so the remaining dates of her “Born This Way Ball” tour have been canceled. Anyone who bought tickets can get a refund at the point of purchase.
The worst job at the Grammys? Seat assigner. A source said making seating charts for awards shows is a nightmare because you’re dealing with so many egos. At the last minute, Taylor Swift’s handlers let Grammy organizers know that not only did she not want to be seated near Carrie Underwood, she also wanted to make sure their paths didn’t cross on the red carpet. Why the bad blood? Sources say it’s not a particular incident, but Taylor feels like Carrie is always rude to her, so she’d rather avoid the situation. Another seating nightmare when Katy Perry let Grammy organizers know to put her far away from her former awards show BFF, Rihanna. Katy doesn’t approve of Rihanna’s rekindled relationship with Chris Brown and doesn’t want to look like she supports her in that decision.
