J-Si’s Blog: Live the dream

I have always fantasized about being a performer. Out on stage, with a band, having a blast. Problem is I am not blessed in the singing department, and I definitely am not Joe Perry on the guitar (hope you’re feeling better, Joe). So that remains a fantasy. I have had a couple experiences where I was able to sort of live that dream. But, I have always wanted to be in a band. Seriously. My buddies and I started a Blink 182 cover band in high school. We practiced, played a couple shows, but then we lost our bassist, couldn’t find one, and that was it. Short lived.

jsi-blog-300x300Last night Big Al and I were able to go practice with Caroline’s friends and awesome cover band (The Clinton Years). Caroline is performing some songs with them at the New Kidd’s Kids on the Block party. Big Al and I jokingly said that would be fun. Then Caroline asked us what songs we would sing. We told her. Then she hit us up to come out to practice. Honestly, I thought it wouldn’t happen. That it was just for fun in the office.

Well, last night was practice. This is exactly what I expected it to be: incredibly fun! You practice, do a lil messing around, chat, work things out. No matter what, the whole time you are having fun. Definitely wish I would have been able to join a band that lasted, even if we just did small house parties. How did we do? Caroline was awesome, the band was awesome, I feel I did ok, and our boy Big Al did not know his lyrics.

How will we do when showtime comes? I don’t know, but I do know that it’ll be entertaining!
