Why didn’t Will Smith want to play Django?…Out of the closet and onto the field — will the NFL see their first openly gay player?…and Justin Bieber takes the high road with Selena.
Since Kidd talked about golf in the Hizzle, I can talk football in the Showbiz Top 5! CBS sportswriter Mike Freeman says he has been told that a current gay NFL player is strongly considering coming out publicly within the next few months, and that after he does so, he will continue to play. Never in NFL history has there been a gay active player, so this will be a history-making move. Freeman wouldn’t say who the player is or give any idea as to when this announcement will be made.
Can you imagine Will Smith as Django? That was they way it was supposed to be. But Will told “Entertainment Weekly” that he turned down the part in “Django Unchained” because the part of Django would’ve played second fiddle to the bounty hunter who teaches Django his trade. Will said flat out, “Django wasn’t the lead, so it was like, I need to be the lead. The other character was the lead! He says he even begged Quentin Tarantino to let Django have a bigger part, but Quentin wouldn’t budge. The part ultimately went to Jamie Foxx. And as it turns out, the bounty hunter ended up being the supporting role with Jamie as the lead.
MTV has made a big announcement! The VMAs were last held in NYC in 2009 and they’ve been in LA ever since. But this year, they’re moving the awards show back East..to Brooklyn! This year’s VMAs will be handed out on August 25 at the new Barclays Center, which is basically Jay-Z’s home away from home and a guaranteed way to make sure he shows up.
Selena Gomez has been out promoting her new “Spring Breakers” movie and has made a few jokes about her breakup with Justin Bieber. The two of them dated for almost 2 years, breaking up right before New Year’s Eve. Selena hasn’t said anything about it until now, but the other night on David Letterman’s show, when he said he’d made Justin cry, Selena said, “Well then, that makes two of us.” But Justin is telling all of his friends that no matter what she says, Selena is off limits. He’s not going to fight back in the press and they’re not allowed to, either.
Lindsay Lohan showed up on the LA set of “Anger Management” yesterday a full 45 MINUTES EARLY!! Sources told TMZ that she nailed her lines and her timing was perfect. Plus, she was really funny! And when she was done shooting for the day, Lindsay spent time hanging out with the crew and took pictures with whoever wanted one. In fact, one source says that watching Lindsay do her thing makes you realize why she became a star. Too bad her personal life has messed things up so much, right? She’s due back on set today to wrap up her scenes.
