Kellie’s Blog: Squat it out!
Kellie’s Blog: Squat it out!

Anybody been doing one of those 30 day squat challenges?  Somebody posted one on the first day of May and it looked easy enough. So I decided to google other squat challenges and picked what is probably the most difficult one I could find.

Fortunately for me, I’d been working out for a few weeks before I began day one on May 1st. I got through 50 squats without too much trouble. Day 2? Another 55 down without a problem. Add five a day, throw in a day of rest here and there. Was I doing these squats right? They seemed to be too easy for me. I looked up a video on squatting. Yes, there are plenty of instructional videos demonstrating the perfect squat technique. I’m not saying I was doing the picture-perfect squat, but I was doing something that came pretty darned close. But the day finally came when I realized that this was freaking hard — Day 15. I agonized through 140 squats. But the next day was a merciful day of rest — which was fortunate because I was either suffering from food poisoning or some 24-hour bug. And then I bounced back on day 17 with 150 squats, no problem. And then during last night’s Billboard Music Awards, I decided to squat out my 155 during the Jason Derulo performance and I was so inspired, I threw in an extra five for fun.

I check out my booty sideways in the mirror and I’d LIKE to think I see a little break between where my butt ends and the back of my thighs begin. THAT would be an improvement right there. And when I walk, I look down to see if my upper thighs are jiggling a little less. Are they? Maybe? But then again, I’ve been working out three times a week on top of the squat challenge. What’s real and what’s my wishful thinking?

But it’s fun having listeners follow along with me on this challenge on Facebook and Twitter. If you want to get in on it, it’s not too late. Just start on day one and we’ll all inspire each other to keep going. At the end of this challenge, I’m going to pick a new one. I’m thinking arms!! Let’s get some guns, girls!
