Season 9 winner of “The Voice”… Neil Patrick Harris’ show cancelled… Derek Jeter in a legal battle… Nicki Minaj criticized for Angola show… and Gwen Stefani met Blake Shelton’s mom
SPOILER ALERT: “The Voice” had its two-hour season finale last night, with performances by Coldplay, Ricky Skaggs, Missy Elliott, The Weeknd, and Justin Bieber, who sang “Sorry” right before the winner was announced. And the winner of Season 9 is………….. Team Adam’s Jordan Smith, who then celebrated his win by singing “Climb Every Mountain.” This is Adam Levine’s third win, by the way. Season 10 kicks off in February.
“The Best Time Ever” ended up not being the best show ever, and NBC has pulled the plug on Neil Patrick Harris’ feel-good passion project. NBC still wants to work with Neil on other projects because he’s just too danged good to let go.
According to TMZ, Derek Jeter backed out of a luxury underwear deal because he didn’t want his undies marketed to the gay community. Derek is currently in a legal battle with this Swedish underwear brand Frigo, who claims he withdrew from their deal because the underwear are “too gay.” That’s literally in the court papers! The company says they lost $30 million as a result of Derek’s homophobia. But Derek is firing back with his own lawsuit, saying that the company was threatening him to put more capital into the business and that these claims of being “too gay” are completely untrue.
Nicki Minaj is being slammed by a human rights organization for performing at a festival in Angola Saturday night. Angola has a reputation for committing heinous acts against those who oppose the country’s leader. The head of the Human Rights Foundation wrote an open letter to Nicki, first commending her for her charity work on behalf of children but then asking, “What kind of inspirational message is she sending to millions of young Angolans by performing for the dictatorship that has literally stolen their freedom and their future?” He’s hoping she’ll cancel.
Blake Shelton has taken his relationship with Gwen Stefani to the next level. He brought her home to meet his mom!! A longtime family friend told RadarOnline.com that when Gwen met Blake’s mom Dorothy and his stepdad Mike in Oklahoma, she was “the most country she’s ever been!” Marilyn Phillips said, “She’ll have to get used to it. He took her to all the local joints. There’s not a Starbucks within 50 miles of here!” Marilyn thinks it’s great that Blake’s dating Gwen, and so does another one of Blake’s longtime friends, Justin Perry, who works down at Atwoods Ranch and Home. He said whenever Blake would bring in Miranda Lambert, she was very cold and stuck up and wouldn’t want to take pictures with anybody.
