Clare Crawley is expecting… Raquel Leviss in negotiations… Meghan Markle is ‘wise to distance herself”… ESPYS… and Emmy nominations

Listen to “Showbiz – July 13, 2023” on Spreaker.

If you’re a Bachelor fan, you are very familiar with Clare Crawley’s extremely long and bumpy road toward finding love. We first met her in 2014 when Juan Pablo was the Bachelor. If you remember, when he didn’t give her the final rose, Clare ripped him a new one, telling him she would NEVER want her future children to have father like him. Then in 2020, at age 38, Clare was the oldest Bachelorette in the show’s history, and she said she just felt it in her gut that Dale Moss was going to be her husband when he stepped out of that limo, and she ended up quitting the show for him. That ended in disaster. But Clare never gave up! She and this man named Ryan Dawkins — who is the CEO of a company called Mascot Sports — connected on social media. The minute he found out Clare was completely done with Dale, Ryan made his move. The two of them got married in February and now…they’re expecting their first baby! She posted a syrupy sweet video on her Instagram yesterday, dreamily carrying a load of laundry out to a clothes line to hang up baby clothes and then giving her hubby a great big smooch. She then revealed that after navigating “the uncertain world of IVF,” she and Ryan are expecting a baby in January via a surrogate.

Even though cameras have been rolling for the upcoming season of “Vanderpump Rules,” a source told Page Six that Raquel Leviss hasn’t signed on just yet. The source said, “She wants to get as much money as she possibly can so she is playing hardball.” But the source is confident that by the time the cast goes on their trip to Lake Tahoe next week, Raquel and Bravo will have reached a deal and she will be there for filming. So it looks like Scandoval will pay off for Raquel, just not quite as much as it keeps paying off for Ariana Madix. In addition to the upcoming season of “Dancing With the Stars,” Ariana will make a special guest appearance during the second week of Peacock’s “Love Island USA.” Ariana is a huge fan of the show, which actually led to a huge fight between her and Tom Sandoval during Season 10 of “VR.” Ariana believed that watching “Love Island” together counted as quality time, and Tom exploded, “I don’t have time to watch 50 (blankety-blank) episodes of ‘Love Island’! That is YOUR definition of quality time, NOT the definition of quality time!”

Meghan Markle signed with the powerhouse WME talent agency back in April, which a source says is her first step in establishing her own brand separate from her husband. A source told “Bella” magazine that she feels like she’ll have more success working on projects without Prince Harry, and he’s giving her his full support. The source said Meghan’s deal with WME is about making her a power player in Hollywood. Not only is she open to more commercial opportunities, Meghan is reportedly in talks to represent Dior and she’s considering relaunching her lifestyle blog “The Tig.” Meantime, Prince Harry is keeping busy with his own projects. He’s preparing to return to his beloved Africa for a new Netflix documentary.

The ESPY awards were held last night, emcee free due to the ongoing writers strike. Among the big winners were Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, who won Best NFL Player and Best Athlete, Men’s Sports. His Chiefs also won Best Team. Best Athlete, Women’s Sports went to skier Mikaela Shiffrin. Shohei Ohtani of the LA Angels won Best MLB Player. Best NBA Player is the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokić, which Best WNBA player is A’Ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces. Best NHL Player is Connor McDavid from the Edmonton Oilers. In addition to the awards handed out, ESPN also paid tribute to Chicago White Sox pitcher Liam Handriks, who received the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance for his battle against non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The US Women’s National Soccer Team was honored with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage for their fight for equal pay. And the Buffalo Bills training staff received the Pat Tillman Award for Service for their fast action in saving the life of Damar Hamlin, after he collapsed on the field in cardiac arrest.

The Emmy nominees were announced yesterday, and as usual, HBO had the most, with 127. More than half of those came from just three shows. “Succession” got the most nominations of any show, with 27. It was followed by “The Last of Us” with 24, and “The White Lotus” with 23. All three of those shows are up for Best Drama, along with “Andor,”” “Better Call Saul,” “The Crown,” “House of the Dragon,” “Yellowjackets.” The Best Comedy nominees are “Abbott Elementary,” “Barry,” “The Bear,” “Jury Duty,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maiselm,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “Ted Lasso,” and “Wednesday.” The 75th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are still on the schedule for Sept. 18 on Fox, but with the writers strike and a pending actors strike, that could be postponed until as early as November or possibly as late as January.
