Stranger Things on Broadway… Lauryn Hill & the Fugees’ 2024 tour canceled… New movies on the horizon… Kim Kardashian files for restraining order… and The 2024 VMA nominees

It debuted in London back in November and has been a huge smash, now Stranger Things: The First Shadow is officially heading to Broadway! This award-winning play is a prequel to the Netflix series. According to the official synopsis: “Before the world turned upside down. Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy…and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.” Performances begin at New York City’s Marquis Theatre on March 28, 2025, with opening night set for April 22, 2025. Pre-sales tickets go on sale September 13 to those who sign up on StrangerThingsBroadway.com.

Three days before it was set to begin, Lauryn Hill and the Fugees have canceled their tour. No explanation was given, but ticket holders got their refund notices yesterday. According to Variety, the tour was supposed to start in Tampa this Friday and wind its way across the US, hitting major cities like Atlanta, Dallas, and Philadelphia, before wrapping the US leg at the Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 17. After a brief break, the European leg was set to kick off Oct. 12. This is the 3rd consecutive year that Lauryn and the Fugees have canceled some or all of their tour dates. But as one person posted online, “At this point, I don’t blame Lauryn Hill and the Fugees. I blame y’all for buying tickets in the first place.”

In movie news, the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown arrives in theaters on Christmas Day. Timothée Chalamet stars as a young Bob Dylan making his first visit to New York City. And Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista will star in a new Lethal Weapon-esque buddy-comedy called The Wrecking Crew. Specific plot details are being kept under wraps, but according to MovieWeb, Jason and Dave play “two half-brothers — one a loose cannon cop (Momoa) and the other a disciplined Navy SEAL (Bautista). After 20-odd years of bad blood, they must work together to unravel the conspiracy behind their father’s murder in Hawaii.”

Kim Kardashian has filed for a restraining order against a very aggressive, persistent stalker. According to documents obtained by TMZ, Emma Roberts called Kim to warn her about Melvin Jeffrey Conley. Apparently, Melvin broke into Emma’s house and used her landline to call Emma’s cell phone. Emma missed the call, but when she called back, Melvin answered. He claimed Emma had given him permission to stay at her house — which she hadn’t — and that he really wanted to meet up with Kim and her kids. The next day, Melvin showed up at Kris Jenner’s house, telling security that he was Kim’s long-time manager — as well as a player for the Toronto Raptors — and that he had an appointment to meet with Kim that day. And Melvin has also tried to break into Kim’s home in Malibu, which she claims is very difficult to find. Emma has already asked for and received a 5-year restraining order against Melvin, and now Kim wants one, too.

Award show news — We’re less than 6 weeks away from the Emmy Awards, which will air live on ABC on Sept. 15, and they are still without a host. But reportedly, father and son duo Eugene and Dan Levy are in final negotiations to co-host the ceremony. The American Music Awards haven’t been held since November 2022, but they’re making a big comeback in May 2025. In the meantime, you can enjoy the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special, which is coming up on Sunday, Oct. 6, featuring some of the most iconic moments and unforgettable performance smushed into 2 hours. But first up, on Tuesday, Sept. 10, it’s the 2024 MTV VMAs. The first ceremony was held in 1984, so this is their 40th anniversary, and yes — they will pay homage to that very first show and highlight some of biggest moments over the past four decades. Nominations for this year’s ceremony are out, and Taylor Swift leads the pack with 10, including Video of the Year for Fortnight, featuring Post Malone. Also up for the night’s biggest award are Ariana Grande’s we can’t be friends (wait for your love), Billie Elish’s Lunch, Doja Cat’s Paint the Town Red, Eminem’s Houdini, and SZA’s Snooze.
