Adam Levine Breaks Silence After Super Bowl Halftime Show

Weekend box office news… Pete Davidson & Kate Beckinsale update… Demi Lovato has shut down her Twitter… 21 Savage arrested… and Adam Levine breaks silence after Maroon 5’s Super Bowl Halftime Show

I drove by some sparse movie theater parking lots this weekend. Traditionally, box office numbers are down for Super Bowl weekend, but this year was the worst it’s been in 19 years. “Glass” is still number one, but it only earned $9.5 million. That was followed by “The Upside” with $8 million. Coming in third was “Miss Bala” — the only new movie out this weekend. It only had a $15 million budget, so maybe it will eventually end up breaking even. But “Miss Bala” debuted with only $6.7 million. “Aquaman” is still hanging in there with $4.8 million and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” — which all my boys finally saw this weekend — rounded out the top five with $4.4 million.

There were rumors that Pete Davidson and Kate Beckinsale were being real flirty at the Golden Globes after-parties, but we never had any pictures to back that up. Now we do! Kate was Pete’s date to his standup show in LA on Friday. We have to assume that nobody was laughing harder at his jokes about Ariana Grande than Kate. Afterward, Pete grabbed Kate’s hand and led her past the paparazzi to their waiting car, which took them back to his hotel. Kate is 45 and Pete is 25, so what’s the attraction here? A source says Kate likes spending time with younger men who amuse her.

Demi Lovato has shut down her Twitter after getting slammed for daring to think a meme was funny. When news broke that 21 Savage is actually from England and was arrested by ICE for being here illegally, the memes started rolling out. Demi happened to be on Twitter at the time and tweeted, “So far 21 savage memes have been my favorite part of the Super Bowl.” She started getting heat for that and later tweeted a picture of a hand holding a feathered quill and writing on parchment. The meme was captioned, “This how 21 savage be writing his verses.” And she explained, “FYI this is the s*** I’m laughing at.. not the fact that anyone is getting deported.” Too bad, Demi! You dared to laugh at a meme and now you deserve to be attacked and made fun of for almost dying from an overdose! Demi deleted her Twitter and then explained on her Instagram story, “Wasn’t laughing at anyone getting deported. I know that’s not a joke…not have I EVER laughed at that. The meme I posted/was talking about was of him being writing with a feather pen. Sorry if I offended anyone. But it’s no excuse to laugh at someone’s addiction, let alone their OD.”

So what started all this was 21 Savage being arrested by ICE in Atlanta yesterday morning. Apparently, Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph came to the US from England back in 2005, but when his Visa expired, he didn’t go home. Somewhere along the way, he changed his name of 21 Savage. Then then in 2014, Savage was arrested on drug charges, which made him a felon, which is why he is now being held for deportation proceedings. His rep told Variety that they’re working to get Savage out of detention while they work with authorities to clear up any “misunderstanding.” Apparently, his legal team had been working for the past few months trying to get this all straightened out. It has something to do with the validity of his paperwork when Savage entered the US. The rep says, “Mr. Abraham-Joseph is a role model to the young people in the country — especially in Atlanta, Georgia and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged youths in financial literacy.”

After Adam Levine said he was just going to let the music speak for itself, all most people heard was, “Meh.” After all the controversy and calls for Maroon 5 to drop out of the Super Bowl Halftime Show, Adam and his band performed a handful of their hits as he peeled off his coat and then his jacket and then his ugly tank top (which caused a lot of controversy on Twitter) which left him bare-chested as he performed “Moves Like Jagger.” In between all that, we got a little cartoon intro of Travis Scott featuring Squidward and SpongeBob from a 2001 episode where the Bikini Bottom Superband perform at the Super Bowl. Travis performed a super-bleeped “Sicko Mode” before falling into the audience and crowd-surfing away. And then Big Boi came out, as expected, and performed “The Way You Move.” And that’s really about it. No surprises. Nothing special. Just meh.
