“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” was not only the number one movie this weekend, it set the record for the highest-earning opening for video game adaptation, which was previously held by “Sonic the Hedgehog.” The sequel earned $71M in the US. Audiences reporting to Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 97 percent, while critics gave it 67 percent. Coming in a distant second was “Morbius” with $10.2M, followed by “The Lost City” with $9.1M. “Ambulance” debuted in a very disappointing fourth place with $8.7M. And rounding out the top five was “The Batman” with another $6.5M. That movie moves over to HBO Max next week.

Jason Momoa revealed recently that he’s coming back for “Fast & Furious 10.” He told Entertainment Tonight that he’ll be playing the bad guy and he’s super excited that he gets to work with Charlize Theron. And then over the weekend, Vin Diesel announced that Brie Larson is joining the cast. He posted a selfie with Brie on his Instagram, captioning it, “Yeah yeah yeah… you see this angel over my shoulder cracking me up, you say to your self “ that’s captain Marvel”. Clearly there is love and laughter in this image. What you don’t see however, is the character you will be introduced to in Fast10. You have no idea how timeless and amazing she will be in our mythology. Beyond her beauty, her intellect… her Oscar, haha is this profound soul who will add something you might not have expected but yearned for. Welcome to the FAMILY Brie.” They’re supposed to start shooting “Fast & Furious 10” this spring and it’s set to debut in May 2023.

The Billboard Music Awards will air on NBC on Sunday, May 15, and the nominees were announced on Friday. The Weeknd leads with 17, including Top Artist, Top Male Artist, and Top Hot 100 artist. The soon-to-be-retired-but-maybe-not-after-all Doja Cat follows with 14 nominations, including Top Artist and Top Female Artist. Justin Bieber and Olivia Rodrigo each earned 13 nominations. If Justin picks up a handful, he could set a record. He’s already won 21 Billboard Music Awards, putting him third on the list of most wins. Drake is number one with 29, followed by Taylor Swift with 25. Kanye West did well in the Christian categories. Four out of the top five songs are his in two different categories, Top Christian Song and Top Gospel Songs.

We had two celebrity weddings on Saturday. In Palm Desert, California, Ryan Cabrera married WWE star Alexa Bliss, in front of 360 of their closest friends and associates, including Ryan’s former girlfriend Avril Lavigne and her new fiancé Mod Sun, three out of five members of *NSYNC, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze, Jr., and J-Si and Kinsey Chavez! The dress code, according to Ryan was, “What would Harry Styles do?” And the bride and groom both wore pink. Alexa wore a blush gown and had pink accents in her blonde hair, while Ryan wore a pink suit with coordinating pink nail polish. And then in Palm Beach, Florida, Brooklyn Beckham married heiress Nicola Peltz at her family’s estate. Their celebrity guests included Brooklyn’s parents, David and Victoria, Spice Girls Mel B and Mel C, Venus and Serena Williams, and Eva Longoria. In a twist, Brooklyn is adding his wife’s name to his. He will be legally known as Brooklyn Joseph Peltz Beckham.

Twenty years later, Jennifer Lopez has accepted her second marriage proposal from Ben Affleck. The first time around, Ben proposed with a 6.1 carat pink diamond ring from Harry Winston. At the time, Jennifer said it was the most magnificent thing she’d ever seen. This time around, Ben proposed with an 8.5 carat natural green diamond. Diamond Pro CEO Mike Fried told Page Six Style, “If that is indeed a green diamond, then I am stunned. A green diamond of that size is incredibly rare and would dwarf the value of their previous engagement ring. I would value the ring well over $5 million and could be worth more than $10 million.” In one of her previous “On the JLo” newsletters, Jennifer shared that green is her lucky color. She said, “I’ve realized there are many moments in my life where amazing things happened when I was wearing green.”
