It was no surprise that “The Little Mermaid” won the US box office over the Memorial Day weekend. The live-action remake of the 1988 animated version took in $117.5M in its first 4 days of release, making it the 5th largest Memorial Day box office ever. But the rest of the world doesn’t love it as much as Americans do. The movie took in only $68.1M from more than 50 international markets, including Mexico, the UK, Australia, Brazil, and South Korea. Critics aren’t loving “The Little Mermaid” as much as the audience is. All Critics on RottenTomatoes.com gave it 68% positive reviews, but the Top Critics’ reviews were only 47% positive. But the biggest divide is among the audience. The Verified Audience — those who bought tickets through Fandango, which owns RottenTomatoes.com — gave “The Little Mermaid” a certified fresh 95% rating. But when you look at All Audience, it only received a 57% positive score, making it rotten. Coming in second place over the holiday weekend was “Fast X” with another $28.7M, followed by “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” with $26.1M.

Back in December, Celine Dion revealed she’d been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called Stiff Person Syndrome, which not only causes muscle stiffness, but also painful muscle spasms. It’s caused her to postpone so many shows that Celine has decided to go ahead and cancel her upcoming world tour. In a message to her fans, she posted, “I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%. It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again . . . I’m not giving up, and I can’t wait to see you again!”

In celebrity engagement news, Deuxmoi recently claimed that Austin Butler proposed to Kaia Gerber in April but they were keeping it a secret. However, a source close to the couple says it’s not true. But Bella Thorne wants everyone to know she is most definitely engaged to film and television producer Mark Emms. After 9 months of dating, he popped the question with a 10+ carat emerald-cut diamond. And after only 6 months of dating, Jana Kramer is engaged to former professional soccer player now coach Allan Russell. She said Allen is her person. This will be her fourth marriage.

Billie Eilish had a message for people hating on her for changing up her look, and it’s too vulgar to repeat! But among the parts I can share, Billie posted on her Instagram Story, “Letter to some comments i be seeing sometimes…i spent the first 5 years of my career getting absolutely OBLITERATED by you fools for being boyish and dressing how i did & constantly being told i’d be hotter if i acted like a woman and now when i feel comfortable enough to wear anything remotely feminine or fitting, i CHANGED and am a sellout.. and ‘what happened to her’ oMg iT’s nOt thE sAmE biLlie she’s just like the rest bla blah… you guys are true idiots. LOL. i can be BOTH you f—ing bozos. LET WOMEN EXIST!” But she wasn’t done. Billie came back and added, “FUN FACT! did you know that women are multifaceted!!!!!??? shocking right?? believe it or not women can be interested in multiple things. also that femininity does not equal weakness???!!!! omg?! insane right? who knew??” Then she instructed all the women hating weirdos to perform a function I cannot repeat.

Selena Gomez was in Paris and just wanted to enjoy Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour. But an overly aggressive security guard wasn’t allowing that to happen. It’s not clear if the venue or Selena hired this guy to guard her, but Selena was not pleased. Someone posted a video of her firmly telling this man to stop following her. Other than that, Selena and the rest of the crowd loved seeing Blue Ivy jump on stage with her mom during the performance of “My Power.” Blue handled some very difficult choreography like a pro, and Beyonce had her back on stage for last night’s performance in London. Beyonce posted a photo and some clips on Instagram, captioning them, “My beautiful first born (prayer hands emoji) I’m so proud and thankful to be your mama. You bring us so much joy, my sweet angel.” One of the commenters suggested Blue Ivy’s fans nickname themselves “The Ivy League.”
