Lady Antebellum is changing its name… Dave Chappelle’s new special… Chrissy Teigen underwent surgery… Kelly Clarkson filed court papers… and Big “Bachelor” news
In a letter to their fans, Lady Antebellum announced they’ve changed the name of their band to simply “Lady A.” They wrote, “After much personal reflection, band discussion, prayer and many honest conversations with some of our closest black friends and colleagues, we have decided to drop the word ‘antebellum’ from our name and move forward as Lady A, the nickname our fans gave us almost from the start.” They went on to explain that when they started 14 years ago, they chose their name after the Southern antebellum style home where they took their first publicity photos. They said they “did not take into account the associations that weigh down this word referring to the period of history before the Civil War, which includes slavery. We are deeply sorry for the hurt this has caused and for anyone who has felt unsafe, unseen or unvalued. Causing pain was never our hearts’ intention, but it doesn’t change the fact that ended, it did just that.” They’re actually getting a good bit of backlash on social media. But among the first Twitter comments I saw was, “Your move, @DixieChicks.”

Surprise! In the wee hours, Dave Chappelle dropped an almost half-hour special on the “Netflix is a Joke” YouTube channel. He captioned the video, “Normally I wouldn’t show you something so unrefined, I hope you understand.” The special is titled “8:46” — and he says it really resonates with him because that’s how long the officer kneeled on George Floyd’s neck, but it was also the exact time of day Dave was born. While there are some funny moments, Dave gets very deep when it comes to George Floyd’s death and all the protests that are still happening, and he calls out several TV commentators for the stances they’ve taken.

Chrissy Teigen had her breast implants removed yesterday. Chrissy posted on her Instagram, “Surgery went perfectly! So so so so so sore but waking up to this made it go away for half a minute at least.” Then she showed off the homemade cards 4-year-old Luna and 2-year-old Miles made for her ahead of her operation. One said, “Have fun pulling your boobies out Love Luna.” The other said, “Bye Boobies” with a mermaid sticker.

After almost seven years of marriage, Kelly Clarkson has filed for divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock, citing irreconcilable differences. A source told Entertainment Tonight that the couple had been having problems and hoped they could work them out in quarantine, but things only got worse. Kelly is asking for joint custody of their two kids, 6-year-old River Rose and 4-year-old Remington. She also wants their prenup enforced, which would block Brandon from receiving any spousal support. Brandon is also Kelly’s manager and an executive producer for her talk show, but we’re not sure if the divorce will affect those arrangements.

Clare Crawley’s season as the Bachelorette hasn’t even happened yet, and now ABC has gone and announced the next Bachelor! He is 28-year-old Matt James, and you probably already recognize him from all the TikToks he makes with his roommate and best friend, Tyler Cameron. In making the announcement, ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said, “Matt has been on our radar since February, when producers first approached him to join Bachelor Nation, as part of Clare’s season. When filming couldn’t move forward as planned, we were given the benefit of time to get to know Matt and all agreed he would make a perfect Bachelor.” Matt and Tyler became friends when they played football together at Wake Forest. He now works as a real estate broker in NYC and he and Tyler also run the charity, ABC Food Tours. And now Matt has made history by becoming the very first black Bachelor!
