Phoebe Bridgers is being sued… TV roundup… Lori Loughlin’s 1st role since scandal… Jesse Palmer new host of ‘The Bachelor’… and Britney Spears’ father could be removed as conservator today
Listen to “Showbiz – Sep 29, 2021” on Spreaker.
Music producer Chris Nelson is suing Phoebe Bridgers for defamation, and he’s asking for $3.8M in damages. Chris claims that Phoebe went on her Instagram and accused him of racially-motivated hate crimes, fraud and theft. The lawsuit states that while Chris and Phoebe met several years ago, they never worked together. However, around 2018, Chris and his then girlfriend entered a consensual relationship with Phoebe. Chris says about a year or so later, he and his girlfriend broke up, but that she and Phoebe kept seeing each other. Then in October of last year, Phoebe went on her Instagram and accused Chris of all these nasty things — “grooming, stealing, violence” — and told her followers to go check out his old girlfriend’s account where she accused him of “racially-motivated hate crimes,” including beating “a young Latinx man to death.” There’s a whole lot of other stuff they accused him of — like buying and selling fake rare guitars and hacking email accounts, but Chris says none of it is true and that Phoebe had a vendetta against him that was fueled by her relationship with his ex.

Has Lori Loughlin been punished enough? Can she come out of celebrity time-out now? In early 2019, Lori was fired from all her jobs when news of the college admissions scandal hit the press. She ended up serving two months behind bars. But Lori is being given a chance to start over at Hallmark. They fired her from “When Calls the Heart,” but they’re bringing her back on the premiere episode of its spinoff, “When Hope Calls.” Lori will appear as Abigail Stanton in the episode titled “A Country Christmas,” which debuts Dec. 18.

ABC could’ve made history, but they stuck to their formula and hired another white guy to replace Chris Harrison. Jesse Palmer — who actually WAS the Bachelor back in 2004 — is now returning as the host. By the way, things didn’t work out for him and Jessica Bowlin, who received Jesse’s final rose. But Jesse did ultimately find love and is now engaged to model Emely Fardo. This hosting gig isn’t new for Jesse. He currently hosts ABC’s summer series “The Ultimate Surfer” and in 2018, he hosted “The Proposal,” which was created by the guy who also created “The Bachelor,” Mike Fleiss. We don’t know the premiere date for Season 26 of “The Bachelor,” but Season 18 of “The Bachelorette” premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 19.

Today’s the day! Britney Spears’ attorney is back in court to face her daddy Jamie Spears over the status of her 13-year conservatorship. Set your alarm for 1:30pm PT / 2:30pm MT / 3:30pm CT / 4:30pm ET — and because I’m always curious about what time it is in London compared to where I am — 9:30pm BST (British Summer Time.) What Britney’s attorney is hoping to accomplish today is to have Jamie removed as conservator of Britney’s finances and have him replaced temporarily by CPA John Zabel while they continue to work on dissolving the conservatorship entirely. Yesterday, Jamie’s attorneys filed papers saying Mr. Zabel isn’t qualified to oversee Britney’s $60M fortune. To that, Britney’s attorney called Jamie Spears a “reported alcoholic and gambling addict with zero financial background or experience in financial matters,” and then reminded everyone that Jamie had previously filed for bankruptcy.
