‘Naked Gun’ reboot… Music news… Silk Sonic will not submit their album… Nicki Minaj drama… and Britney Spears hits out at her dad
Listen to “Showbiz – Oct 14, 2022” on Spreaker.
It’s going to be real interesting how they’re going to do this reboot in today’s PC climate, but Paramount Pictures is going to try! They’re making a reboot of “The Naked Gun” — one of those movies your dad and his friends love to quote but you don’t know why the heck they think it’s so funny. Leslie Nielsen starred in the original series of movies. They actually tried to do a reboot back in 2013 with Ed Helms as the star, but that fell apart. We don’t know who will star in this second attempt at a reboot, but back in February, Liam Neeson told an interviewer, “I’ve been approached by Seth MacFarlane and Paramount Studios to maybe resurrect the ‘Naked Gun’ films. I’ll either finish my career or bring it in another direction. I honestly don’t know.” Sources say he’s still in negotiations for a role in the movie, but we don’t know what that is. As Liam said, Seth MacFarlane is one of the producers, and Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer has signed on to direct and executive produce.

In music news, Adam Levine is collaborating with Maluma and The Rudeboyz for his first Spanish-speaking song, “Ojalá,” which is due Oct. 20. Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated 10th studio album “Midnights” debuts the next day. On Monday, Taylor will be a guest on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Meghan Trainor will be on the same night, and apparently she’s closing out the episode with a special performance. Then on Tuesday, Zedd and Maren Morris will perform.
The surprise collaboration comes just weeks after Levine denied having an affair with an Instagram model. https://t.co/gIRVctkI03

Grammy nominations will be announced on Nov. 15, and the 65th annual Grammy Awards will take place in LA on Feb. 5. But the Grammys will definitely NOT be going to Silk Sonic. Bruno Mars announced that he and his Silk Sonic partner Anderson Paak have withdrawn their album “An Evening With Silk Sonic” from consideration. Bruno told “Rolling Stone, “We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year. We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party. Thank you for letting Silk Sonic thrive.” It has been a LOOOONG time since their album was released. The lead single, “Leave the Door Open” was released in April 2021 and won all four Grammys for which it was nominated earlier this year. But because the album wasn’t released until November 2021, it’s still eligible for the 2023 awards, and everybody was predicting another sweep. But Bruno said they’re happy with what they’ve already won and that they’d be “crazy to ask for anything more.”

Twitter gets crazy in the middle of the night! Nicki Minaj and Latto were going at it, with Nicki slamming Latto for age shaming her. First, Nicki was griping that the Grammys decided to submit her song “Super Freaky Girl” in the Pop category instead of Rap. She tweeted, “I have no problem being moved out of the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY. If SFG has 2B moved then so does “Big Energy”! ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or troll.” That’s when Latto jumped on Twitter and — without mentioning Nicki — she clapped back, “Damn, I can’t win for losing. All these awards/noms I can’t even celebrate.” Then Nicki slammed Latto for not standing with her in the fight against the Grammys. She tweeted and later deleted, “This Karen has probably mentioned my name in over 100 interviews. Says she waited in line for Pink Friday with her Barbie chain on, bangs, pink hair…but today, scratch off decides to be silent; rather than speak up for the Black woman she called her biggest inspiration.” Nicki said Latto did text her about the whole situation, but she was upset Latto didn’t speak out publicly. Latto explained she didn’t like the fact that Nicki referenced her song while trying to prove her point. She tweeted, “I didn’t wanna do Internet s*** w. sum1 I looked up to.”

Britney Spears continued to post long rants about her family, describing how her mother slapped her across the face after partying all night with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, and posted that her dad always told her she was fat so she never fell pretty or good enough. She went so far as to say, “I pray you burn in hell you sorry son of a b****!!!” And now Britney has once again decided to take a social media break, deactivating her Instagram account yesterday. She’s done this several times before. Her Twitter is still activated, but she rarely posts there.
