Casey Kasem, host of “American Top 40,” passed away

Box office weekend… Kelly Clarkson had her baby… Kimye refuses to sell their wedding photos… George Clooney for governor?… and Casey Kasem, host of “American Top 40,” passed away

We had the World Cup, the Stanley Cup and NBA Finals, but people still wanted to get out of the house and go to the movies. Coming in first this weekend was the “21 Jump Street” sequel, “22 Jump Street,” with $60 million. A couple years ago, the original opened with $36.3 million. Another sequel, “How to Train Your Dragon 2” opened in second with $50 million. And in third, “Maleficent,” with another $19 million. Rounding out the top five, Tom Cruise’s “Edge of Tomorrow” with $16 million and “The Fault in Our Stars” nipping at its heels with $15.7 million.

Kelly Clarkson announced on Saturday that she had given birth on Thursday! She tweeted, “Our baby girl River Rose Blackstock arrived on June 12th! Thank you everyone for all of your well wishes! Brandon and I are on cloud 9!! :)” This is Kelly’s first child. Brandon has two kids from a previous marriage, 11-year-old Savannah and 7-year-old Seth.

Page Six is reporting that Kris Jenner is seething because Kim Kardashian and Kanye West refused to sell their wedding photos. The international offers totaled close to $11 million! When Kris negotiated the sale of Kim and Kris Humphries’ wedding photos, she got a reported $1.5 million, plus $300K for the engagement pictures. But Kimye decided to control the shots they wanted released, including the most depressing photo of the three of them on their wedding day with baby North looking like she wanted to run for her life and the couple looking about as far from happy as you can get.

George Clooney reportedly is being encouraged by his friends and members of the Democratic party to run for governor of California in 2018! George once said he could never run for public office because he’d “slept with too many women, done too many drugs and been to too many parties.” A source told the Daily Mirror it also helps that George is marrying such a smart, powerful woman. The source said, “Now that Amal is by his side, it has boosted his credentials even higher. She is as far removed as some of the girls he has previously dated and possesses incredible intelligence that bodes well if she ever does become First Lady (of California).”

Casey Kasem passed away early Sunday morning after a long battle with Parkinson’s and a form of dementia. He was 82. His daughter released a statement on her Facebook page:  “Early this Father’s Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends. Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken. Thank you for all your love, support and prayers. The world will miss Casey Kasem, an incredible talent and humanitarian; we will miss our Dad.” Casey was best known as host of “American Top 40” and also as the voice of Shaggy in the “Scooby Doo” cartoons. Dozens of celebrities tweeted their condolences, including Ryan Seacrest who quoted Casey’s famous sign-off:  “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars. We’ll miss you, Casey.”
