Weekend box office news… Mr. Belding earned his college diploma… Ronda Rousey went to the Marine Corp Ball… Eva Longoria is engaged… and Ed Sheeran ‘quits’ social media
It’s the quiet before the storm. Not a lot of people went to the movies this weekend, maybe saving up their movie-going dollars for “Star Wars The Force Awakens.” But “Mockingjay – Part 2” managed to pull out another win, with $11.3 million in its fourth weekend of release. Chris Hemsworth’s new movie “In the Heart of the Sea” sold only $11 million worth of tickets for a disappointing second place opening. Coming in third was “The Good Dinosaur” with $10.5 million.
Congratulations, Mr. Belding! The principal of Bayside just earned his college diploma over the weekend. Dennis Haskins graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a BA in theater. The “Saved By the Bell” theme song even played as he walked across the stage to get his diploma. In a statement posted on the university’s website, Dennis wrote: “As successful as some have said I’ve been, from the incredible success of ‘Saved by the Bell,’ other quality acting roles, the books I’ve written, and even UTC Distinguished Alumni in 2000, there’s always been something missing for me — my college degree. Now, with the forward thinking policies of this great university that I love so much that have benefited many other graduates, I join these graduates in holding my head high having earned my liberal arts degree in theater from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.”
Ronda Rousey was true to her word and went to the Marine Corp Ball in SC Friday night with Lance Cpl. Jarrod Haschert, who asked her out via Facebook. When she landed back at LAX Saturday, Ronda told the paparazzi that Jarrod was “a real gentleman and a real sweetheart.” And since getting her butt kicked by Holly Holm, Ronda said, “It was the only smiling I’ve been doing, I think.”
Congratulations to Eva Longoria! She is engaged to Jose Antonio Baston, the president of Televisa, Latin America’s largest media company. In other words, he’s loaded. The couple were in Dubai for the Global Gift Gala. Jose surprised Eva with an excursion out into the desert where he popped the question with what looks like a ruby and diamond engagement ring. She posted a picture on Instagram, captioning it, “Ummmm so this happened….#Engaged #Dubai #Happiness.”
Ed Sheeran just wrapped up the last leg of his world tour in New Zealand and now he’s going radio silent. Don’t expect to her a tweet out of Ed for the foreseeable future because he’s going on a social media fast. He posted one final Instagram message to his 5.5 million followers yesterday morning:
