Box Office weekend news… Richard Gere and Carey Lowell divorcing… Lindsay Lohan’s reality show season finale… Liam Hemsworth reached out to Miley Cyrus… and Gwen Stefani fills in for Christina Aguilera on ‘The Voice’
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” was number one at the box office for a third week, taking in another $26.6 million to push it over the $200 million mark. Coming in second was “Rio 2” with $22.5 million. “Heaven Is for Real” debuted in third with $21.5 million. But the big disappointment this weekend was Johnny Depp’s new movie “Transcendence,” which took in only $11.2 million. And Marlon Wayans’ “Haunted House 2” debuted in fifth with $9.1 million.
After 11 years of marriage, Richard Gere and Carey Lowell are divorcing. A source told Page Six that Richard’s quietly been dating “Top Chef” host Padma Lakshmi. Richard and Carey have one son, Homer. Padma has a 3-year-old daughter, Krishna Thea Lakshmi-Dell with former fling, Adam Dell. That would be the brother of Michael Dell, as in Dell computers.
On last night’s season finale of her reality show, Lindsay Lohan explained why she had been late for so many public appearances. At first she tried to blame it all on a severe chest cold, but then she broke down in tears and admitted, “No one knows this, but I had a miscarriage for those two weeks I took off. I was sick, and that mentally messes with you.”
Liam Hemsworth may have ended his relationship with Miley Cyrus, but he’s not heartless. When he found out Miley was hospitalized after a severe allergic reaction to antibiotics, Liam reportedly reached out to her to make sure she was going to be okay. Meantime, Miley has canceled the remaining US dates of her “Bangerz” world tour. She is expected to be well enough to kick off the European leg of the tour on May 2, and she’ll make up the US dates after that.
Gwen Stefani will be taking Christina Aguilera’s spot as a judge on “The Voice” on season 7, which begins filming in June. Sources say NBC asked Christina to return, but she wants to take time off to enjoy the remainder of her pregnancy and plan her wedding. It was already announced that Pharrell is taking over for Cee Lo Green. Adam Levine and Blake Shelton are staying right where they are.
