Listen to “Showbiz – Sept 15, 2023” on Spreaker.
In TV news, starting Monday, CBS is adding the long-running syndicated comedy series “Comedy Unleashed with Byron Allen” to its late-night lineup. This series has been in syndication since 2006, so how have I never heard of it?? Starting Monday, the show will air weeknights with two back-to-back episodes, following repeats of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Comedians like Tiffany Haddish, Howie Mandel and Leslie Jones will join Byron for a roundtable discussion of the day’s events. The plan is to keep “Comedy Unleashed” on the air until the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes are resolved. But maybe if it does well enough, they’ll just leave it there to take “The Late Late Show’s” old time slot. Meantime, we’re getting another game show! Rob Lowe is producing and hosting “The Floor,” a midseason replacement show for Fox. According to Deadline, “‘ The Floor’ is a physical quiz show that sees 81 contestants face off in quiz duels on a giant LED floor divided into a hundred equal squares, each representing its own field of knowledge. The first challenger, selected at random, must choose one of his or her neighboring opponents to go head-to-head in an epic quiz duel in the opponent’s category. The winner takes over the loser’s square, gaining valuable ground as they expand their territory, while the loser exits the game. The winner must then choose – do they continue on and attempt to secure another square? Or do they let The Floor choose a new challenger? The last contestant standing who gains full control over The Floor takes home a life-changing $250,000 cash prize.”

The rumors were true. N’ Sync has a song on the new Trolls movie soundtrack called “Better Place.” It’s their first single in 21 years!! Posters for “Trolls Band Together” — which features the voices of Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, Zooey Deschanel, RuPaul, Eric André, Daveed Diggs and Amy Schumer — showed part of N’ Sync’s logo along with a QR code, which took you to TakeYouToABetterPlace.com and gave you a little sample of the song. But now the song is out, and it is very different from the N’Sync we used to know. According to Dreamworks, the storyline of the new Trolls movie mirrors Justin’s boy band roots. In it, they say, “Poppy discovers that Branch was once part of a boy band, BroZone, with his brothers: Floyd, John Dory, Spruce, and Clay. But when Floyd is kidnapped, Branch and Poppy embark on a journey to reunite the other brothers and rescue Floyd.’ The movie is due in theaters November 17.

Kanye West is being sued by a former employee who says he was fired for not going along with Kanye’s unreasonable demands. Back in September 2021, Kanye bought a beach house in Malibu for $57M and completely gutted the place so he could renovate it in his vision. Tony Saxon says he was hired as a project manager for the renovations, and also worked as a security guard on the property. But when Kanye ordered Tony to remove all the windows and electricity in the hone and replace them with large generators, Tony objected, saying it was extremely dangerous. Tony claims Kanye told him he would be “considered an enemy if he did not comply,” and that Kanye eventually told him to “get the hell out.” Tony says he was promised $20K a week and worked for Kanye for 2 months before he was fired. He’s suing for unpaid wages, multiple labor code violations and wrongful, retaliatory termination.

Bad Bunny is on the cover of the October issue of “Vanity Fair.” The interviewer asked Mr. Bunny about the constant speculation of his relationship with Kendall Jenner. He said, “I’m not really interested in clarifying anything because I have no commitment to clarify anything to anyone.” Mr. Bunny continued, “There are people who say that artists have to put up with it. I don’t have to accept anything and everything because I wanted to be an artist. At the end of the day, you listen to me because you want to. I don’t force you to.” Mr. Bunny also said he isn’t going to be pressured into singing in English just to reach a certain audience. He said he doesn’t hate the idea of performing in English, he just feels more comfortable singing in his own language. He said, “I think in Spanish, I feel in Spanish, I eat in Spanish, I sing in Spanish.” But he did admit that he speaks English with “specific people,” saying, “With one of them, I couldn’t talk to her before.” Sounds like he’s referring to Kendall…
Bad Bunny doesn’t believe that artists simply need to learn how to embrace the invasive attention that comes with fame.

In the final days of their marriage, there were rumors that Sam Asghari had accused Britney Spears of having an affair with her former housekeeper, which led to an explosive fight. After they both went to sleep, Sam allegedly woke up to Britney whaling on him, and that was the final straw that led him to file for divorce. Now we’re learning more about who this former housekeeper is. Page Six first broke the news that 37-year-old Paul Richard Soliz worked as Britney and Sam’s housekeeper/handyman for about a year before they found out he had a criminal record and was fired. Page Six says his record included a disturbing the peace conviction and dismissed child endangerment charge in 2014, a driving without a license conviction in 2016, and a 2022 conviction for a felony possession of a firearm. Depending on which source you ask, Britney had an affair with Paul, or she didn’t start seeing Paul until after Sam left. Another source is saying whatever she and Paul had going on fizzled out after Britney got back from Mexico, while another source says Paul is Britney’s boyfriend.
