Box office weekend… Teddi Mellencamp’s announcement… Oprah’s Favorite Things… MrBeast investigation… and James Van Der Beek reveals colorectal cancer diagnosis

Venom: The Last Dance not only has the lowest CinemaScore of the Venom trilogy, it had the lowest opening of the trilogy last weekend with just $51M. But it held strong in week 2 with $26.1M. The World Series ending before heading into a second weekend and getting Halloween out of the way certainly helped. Wild Robot had an incredible sixth weekend, adding another $7.55M for second place. Coming in third in its third weekend was Smile 2 with $6.8M. Conclave was fourth with $5.3M. The Forest Gump magic of Tom Hanks and Robin Wright didn’t carry over to their new movie Here. It opened with a giant thud, taking only $5M against its $45M production budget. Word-of-mouth won’t help. Rotten Tomatoes critics scored it just 35% positive reviews, and just 57% of the audience liked it.

Former Real Housewife of Beverly Hills, podcast host, John Mellencamp’s daughter and (if you didn’t know, she’ll remind you) Kyle Richards’ best friend, Teddi Mellencamp has filed for divorce from Edwin Arroyave after 13 years of marriage. They share 3 children. Teddi posted on Instagram that she didn’t want to make a public statement about it, but she felt like she had to in order to protect her kids from speculation and rumors. She said, “I felt being open, honest and vulnerable (her favorite crutch word) was the best path forward.” After making the announcement nobody seems to care too much about, Teddi’s soon-to-be ex posted a video of himself sweating profusely on a treadmill, captioning it, “I work out, not for vanity, but for sanity.” In the video, he explained, “When the enemy’s trying to attack you, he’s always going to go after your soul, where it tries to wound and defeat you.”

For the 27th time, Oprah has released her annual Favorite Things list. When I heard, I immediately went to Amazon and typed that in the search bar. It showed me a lot of stuff from other vendors with things “like” Oprah’s favorite things, but not the real deal, so be mindful of that. If you want the actual FOR REAL list of Oprah’s 116 favorite things, go to OprahDaily.com. You may be wondering, are these REALLY Oprah’s favorite things or are these people just paying her to promote her stuff? A team of people spend the year gathering items for Oprah to check out, and she literally tried and tested every single item before choosing her absolute favorites. Prices range from an $18 scarf to an $1800 coffee machine. Some she uses daily — like her Peepers eyewear and Tatcha Skincare. Some make the list every year, like Truff’s truffle hot sauces. While Oprah loves highlighting small businesses, she also features a few celebrity brands, like Anthony Anderson and Cedric the Entertainer’s 5-piece BBQ set, Tracee Ellis Ross’ hairdryer, Kim Kardashian’s headphones collab with Beats Studio Pro, and Chrissy Teigen’s baking set.

After his longtime co-host Ava Kris Tyson was hit with serious grooming allegations, MrBeast commissioned an internal investigation, hiring an outside investigator, who found no evidence of those claims. After reviewing over 4.5M documents and conducting interviews with 39 current and former employees, the investigator found that allegations of pedophilia, grooming and child pornography involving company employees and minors were without basis. The investigator also found no evidence of MrBeast’s company knowingly employing a registered sex offender, as was alleged. However, the investigation found that in several isolated instances of workplace harassment and misconduct, MrBeast took “swift and appropriate” action, including disciplining and firing certain individuals. Moving forward, the company has already hired a new CEO and General Counsel, and they’ve developed new policies to be laid out in an employee handbook.

James Van Der Beek was forced to announced he is battling colorectal cancer earlier than he had planned. He posted on Instagram yesterday, “It is cancer … Each year, approximately 2 billion people around the world receive this diagnosis. And I’m one of them. There’s no playbook for how announce these things, but I’d planned on talking about it at length with People magazine at some point soon … to raise awareness and tell my story on my own terms. But that plan had to be altered early this morning when I was informed that a tabloid was going to run with the news. I’ve been dealing with this privately until now, getting treatment and dialing in my overall health with greater focus than ever before. I’m in a good place and feeling strong. It’s been quite the initiation, and I’ll tell you more when I’m ready. Apologies to all the people in my life who I’d planned on telling myself. Nothing about this process has occurred on my preferred timeline… But we roll with it, taking each surprise as a signpost, pointing us toward a greater destiny than we would have discovered without divine intervention. Please know that my family and I deeply appreciate all the love and support. More to come …” James and his wife Kimberly share six children, ages 14 to 3. While battling cancer, James continues to work. He stars in Sidelined: The QB and Me, a Tubi original film out Nov. 29. He also appears in The Real Full Monty, a two-hour special where a group of male celebrities including Taye Diggs, Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones, and Bruno Tonioli from Dancing With the Stars, will strip down to raise awareness for prostate, testicular and colorectal cancer. It premieres Dec. 9 on Fox.
