Broadway’s Mean Girls has closed… Alex Trebek’s last episode… Johnny Depp accused Amber Heard of pocketing $7M… Kylie Jenner’s social media purge… and Jeffree Star addressing the Kanye situation
Listen to “Showbiz – Jan 8, 2021” on Spreaker.
The show must go on! Unless there’s a pandemic. Thirty-one Broadway shows were shut down back in March, and while there’s been some talk that a couple shows may open again in May, most aren’t expected to come back until the fall. One thing we know for sure, “Mean Girls” won’t be one of the comebacks. The musical is based on the 2004 Tina Fey. Producer Lorne Michaels released a statement saying they still plan on bringing the Broadway version of “Mean Girls” to the big screen. There will also be a national tour and a London production. But give his regards to Broadway, because “Mean Girls” has run its course there after a little less than 2 years of performances. Poor Sabrina Carpenter was brought in as the lead character, Cady, on March 10, 2020, and only got to appear in two shows before it shut down.

The final episode of “Jeopardy!” hosted by Alex Trebek airs today. Alex took the job in 1984 and for the next 37 seasons, he hosted 8260 shows. In fact, according to the show’s executive producer, Alex didn’t realize he WAS taping his final show back in October, which was filmed 10 days before he passed away. So have a box of tissues ready when at the end of the show, as he always has, Alex turns to the camera and says, “See you next time.”
According to Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards, Trebek didn’t know that the taping of Friday’s episode would be his last. It was filmed 10 days before his death. https://t.co/73yT1BTcSI— The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast) January 8, 2021
Back in 2016, Johnny Depp agreed to give Amber Heard $7M in their divorce settlement, which she said she would donate to two charities — Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the ACLU. Johnny doesn’t think she ever donated that money. Amber testified in court that she did, Johnny’s team is still trying to find out if she’s telling the truth. So far, the ACLU has refused to cooperate with multiple subpoenas, but the Daily Mail claims they’ve seen documents from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles that it only received $100K from Amber — way under the $3.5M she promised. Amber’s attorney says this story was planted by Johnny’s team because they’re hoping to get a retrial in the London court that found him guilty of domestic abuse. Her attorney said, “Amber has already been responsible for seven figures in donations to charitable causes and intends to continue to contribute and eventually fulfill her pledge. However, Amber has been delayed in that goal because Mr. Depp filed a lawsuit against her, and consequently, she has been forced to spend millions of dollars defending Mr. Depp’s false accusations against her.” Good point. But Johnny’s team says they didn’t sue her until two years after their divorce, so why hadn’t she already donated that money by then? Better point.

Kylie Jenner did an Instagram purge, which is BIG NEWS in Celebrity World. Only 28 accounts survived the cut, and Sofia Richie was not one of them. Neither was her former assistant and still close friend Victoria Villarroel, nor her longtime makeup artist Ariel Tejada, nor close Kardashian friend Harry Hudson. Latina superstar Rosalía also got cut, which has fans especially freaked out for some reason. But as for now, Kylie is only following the members of her family, her mom’s lover Corey Gamble, her best friend, Stassie, a super fan named Johnny Cyrus, and a few fan accounts.
It looks like Kylie Jenner did a mass unfollowing of her close friends on Instagram…including Sofia Richie and Rosalía. https://t.co/OwAR6vKaGz— HollywoodLife (@HollywoodLife) January 8, 2021
When a TikTok star started the rumor that Kanye West was having an affair with a male beauty influencer, a lot of people jumped to the conclusion that it was Jeffree Star. They based this on the fact that they both live in Wyoming. At first, Jeffree played along, tweeting, “I’m ready for Sunday Service.” And later he posted a sunset photo captioning it, “I love these beautiful #Wyoming winter nights.” But enough is enough. Jeffree addressed the rumor on YouTube, saying this is “the dumbest s***” he’d ever read. He said, “I woke up and my phone was blowing up and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, what in the scandal is going on today?’” It turns out the scandal was him. But Jeffree denied the rumor, adding, “I like very tall men. Me and Kanye have never hung out, and this whole thing is really funny.”
