The Met Gala 2025 theme… Saoirse Ronan was “sad”… Lupita Nyong’o & Joshua Jackson split… The crowd for Chappell Roan’s set at Austin City Limits… and Jennifer Lopez breaks her silence

Yesterday Vogue revealed the theme of next year’s Met Gala will be Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Anna Wintour is back — as always — alongside co-chairs Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo and Lewis Hamilton. LeBron James will serve as honorary chair. According to Vogue, next year’s theme will “take the Black dandy as its subject, examining the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.”

I didn’t understand, so I googled “Black dandy” and found this: “The history of Black dandyism illustrates how Black people have transformed from being enslaved and stylized as luxury items, acquired like any other signifier of wealth and status, to autonomous, self-fashioning individuals who are global trendsetters.” I also googled “Atlantic diaspora” and found this: “The Atlantic diaspora is a complex historical and geographic concept that refers to the connections, interactions, and conflicts between people of Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The term is often used to describe the African diaspora, which is the worldwide community of people descended from Africans. The African diaspora is made up of many different groups, including those who were enslaved and brought to the Americas, and those who immigrated voluntarily.”

To see how designers interpret Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, we have to wait until May 5, 2025.

Back in 2009, 14-year-old Saoirse Ronan starred in The Lovely Bones, about a teenage girl who is brutally murdered and looks on from her personal heaven as the people she loves try to come to terms with what happened to her. I read the book and wish I never had, so there was no way I was going to see the movie. You may not have known this, but Peter Jackson originally cast Ryan Gosling as the father of the murdered girl, but he was fired on the first day of filming. Saoirse just talked about it on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. She said she loved Ryan and his dog, George and she was sad that he wasn’t going to be around. But she said, “I think the reasons why they parted were totally valid, and I’ve spoken to both now and it happens. Do you know what I mean? It’s not personal, necessarily. It’s like sometimes you’re just not on the same page.” So after a little digging, I found out why Ryan was fired. In a 2010 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan said he believed the dad should be around 210 pounds, so he showed up on set 60 pounds heavier than he was when Peter hired him. Apparently, Ryan did that without telling Peter first, and Ryan said, “Then I was fat and unemployed.” Mark Wahlberg and his abs were then cast as the father, and Saoirse was completely okay with it. She eventually got to work with Ryan in 2014’s Lost River, which he wrote and directed.

Ana’s new favorite TV show is Dr. Odyssey — it’s not too late to come aboard because they’re only two episodes in. Joshua Jackson stars as Dr. Max Bankman, the new doctor on a luxury cruise ship whose job is to keep the passengers and crew alive. Joshua was previously married to Jodie Turner-Smith and then wound up in the arms and on the lips of Lupita Nyong’o. But after Joshua popped up for the premiere of Grotesquerie with German model Nastassja Roberts, Lupita has confirmed that she is single again. In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Lupita said, “If I’m ever so lucky to be in a romantic relationship again, it’ll be because of my cat Yoyo…I was ready to shut that door and lock it and bolt it. He has ensured that my heart remains open.”

When Chappell Roan first signed on to do Austin City Limits, her name was in a teeny tiny font on the roster. Now, she just may have set a record for having the largest audience ever for an ACL performance. ACL typically draws a crowd of about 450K over its two 3-day weekends, but based on the aerial shot I saw, I’m guessing they all showed up for Chappell this past Sunday night. ACL hasn’t announced the numbers yet. Chappell performs again this Sunday night and they may wait until the entire festival wraps to release crowd numbers. By the way, back in August, Chappell did have the biggest daytime crowd in Lollapalooza’s history.

Jennifer Lopez is finally ready to talk about her divorce from Ben Affleck. In Interview magazine, Jennifer told Nikki Glaser, “Everything that I’ve done over the past 25, 30 years, being in these different challenging situations, what can I (BLANKING) do when it’s just me flying on my own … what if I’m just free?” Jennifer admitted that this “new territory” is “lonely, unfamiliar, scary” — and also “sad” and “desperate!” But she realized, “When you sit in those feelings and go, ‘These things are not going to kill me,’ it’s like, ‘Actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself.’ I can’t be looking for happiness in other people, I have to have happiness within myself.”
