Reddit blocked the celebrity nude photos… Ray Rice video footage… a slow box office weekend… Another royal baby on the way… and Joan Rivers got the funeral she wanted
Reddit has blocked the page that’s been hosting last week’s stolen and leaked celebrity nude photos. Reddit usually lets its member police themselves, but they decided that this was just too much. Yes, they’re still posting terrible and offensive things, but in a statement, Reddit says they chose to ban “The Fappening” because even though “current US Law does not prohibit linking to stolen materials, we deplore the theft of these images and we do not condone their widespread distribution.”
Before now, we only saw the footage of NFL Running back Ray Rice dragging his unconscious fiancee out of a Vegas elevator. But TMZ Sports obtained the footage of what actually happened inside that elevator, and it showed Ray delivering the punch that knocked Janay Palmer out. And BTW, yes, she went on to marry the man. NFL commission Roger Goodell decided a 2-game suspension was punishment enough, which has led to all sorts of backlash. Now Seth Rogen is getting in on the conversation. He tweeted, “I don’t know much about football, but I know that Ray Rice is a piece of garbage who shouldn’t be allowed to play it professionally anymore.” And then he tweeted to Goodell, “@nflcommish your punishment for beating a woman is less than for smoking weed. Get your head out of your f***ing a**.”
Lots of empty seats in movie theaters this weekend, but if you DID go to the movies, you would’ve found the most warm bodies inside theaters showing “Guardians of the Galaxy.” It’s number one for a fourth week after earning just $10.16 million. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” took in $6.5 million for second place, and the teen tear-jerker “If I Stay” took third with $5.75 million.
The Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant with baby number two! She’s about 8 weeks along. The Palace was hoping to make the announcement after Kate made it past the first trimester, but she was missing scheduled appointments and they felt like they needed to explain. Just like when she was pregnant with Prince George, Katherine is suffering from severe morning sickness. She had to be hospitalized during her first pregnancy, but as for now, she’s being treated at home by the Royal gynecologists.
Joan Rivers got a lot of what she wanted at her funeral yesterday. Celebrities packed Temple Emanu-El, including David Letterman, Kathy Griffin, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell, and her “Fashion Police” co-hosts, just to name a few. Howard Stern delivered a eulogy and Hugh Jackman performed Peter Allen’s “Quiet Please, There’s a Lady On Stage” from “The Boy From Oz.” The NYC Gay Men’s Choir also performed, singing some irreverent, upbeat songs. As mourners left the service, bagpipers played “New York, New York” and “Give My Regards to Broadway.”
