Weekend box office news… Ben Affleck addressed the rumors… Michael Phelps race was a disappointment… Usher may have another lawsuit on his hands… and Justin Bieber banned in Beijing

“Dunkirk” was expected to take in between $30-40 million this weekend, but blew everybody’s expectations out of the water with $50.5 million and a first place finish. Coming in second was the new “Girls’ Trip” with $30.4 million. Then there was “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “War for the Planet of the Apes.” But the big disappointment this weekend was “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.” The movie cost $180 million to make and only earned $17 million in its opening weekend for a fifth place finish.

Ben Affleck was at Comic-Con in San Diego where he finally addressed the rumors about him not playing Batman beyond the upcoming “Justice League” that comes out in November. Ben did step down from directing the movie, but he says he is still committed to playing Batman.

A lot of people were super excited when it was announced that Michael Phelps would be racing a great white shark as part of Shark Week. And a lot of people were super disappointed when it turned out that Michael was racing a simulated shark. And yes, they took out their frustrations on Twitter.

“I know it’s stupid to think michael phelps was actually going to be racing against a real shark but I’m stupid and upset”

“Michael Phelps not racing a real shark is like being sold Kanye tickets and then watching a Kanye hologram perform”

“Discovery Channel is having Michael Phelps race a shark this year because they couldn’t find Fonzie to waterski over one.”

By the way, Michael lost his race to the simulated great white shark by 2 seconds.

So a woman was reading the tabloids last week and found out Usher had to pay a woman a million bucks for giving her herpes. She was like, “Wait…WHAT???” Turns out she was with Usher this past April and, even though she knew he was married, she says she wouldn’t have gotten with him if she’d known he had an STD! Now she wants $10 million.

Justin Bieber has been banned in China!! He’s scheduled to play shows in Beijing and Shanghai in September, but the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture has released a statement explaining that Justin’s bad behavior led them to ban him from performing! Their statement said, “To regulate the domestic entertainment market and purify its environment, we find it inappropriate to bring in performers with bad behaviors.” Justin joins a growing list of celebrities banned in China, including his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Bon Jovi and Bjork.
