Rapper DMX died on Friday, a week after he suffered an overdose that led to a massive heart attack. He was 50 years old. DMX — whose real name was Earl Simmons — had been deprived of oxygen for nearly 30 minutes after he overdosed, and his brain function never returned. He is survived by 15 children. DMX released his first album back in ’98. His hits included “Party Up (Up in Here)” and “Ruff Ryder’s Anthem.” He also appeared in several movies, including “Romeo Must Die”, “Exit Wounds”, and “Cradle 2 the Grave.” But his career — and his personal life — were marred by addiction and legal problems. It looked like he’d turned things around a couple years ago after finishing a 12-month sentence for tax evasion and a stint in rehab. But this relapse ended up taking his life. Meantime, DMX’s record label is being slammed for releasing two compilation albums of his biggest hits while he was in the hospital.

Prince Philip also passed away on Friday at the age of 99. In addition to his wife, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip is survived by four children, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held this Saturday, but one person who will be noticeably absent is Meghan Markle. She is pregnant and reportedly her doctor advised her not to make the trip across the pond. Prince Harry has already arrived in London. Sources say he and his big brother Prince William will stand shoulder to shoulder behind Prince Philip’s casket as they form part of the royal procession at the service on Saturday. Prince Philip will be taken to St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in a Land Rover he helped design. He reportedly told Queen Elizabeth, “Just stick me in the back of a Land Rover and drive me to Windsor.” The Land Rover will be flanked by pall bearers from the armed forces while his family will walk behind.

Olivia Rodrigo had the first big hit of 2021. Her song “Drivers License” debuted at #1, making her the youngest artist to debut at the top of the chart. She also claimed the record for the biggest weekly streaming debut with 107M worldwide streams. You may not know this, but Olivia is 18 and and got her driver’s license at 17 after four tries. But she’s a young driver and still learning the ropes. Over the weekend, Olivia posted on her IG Story that she got a parking ticket, captioning it, “damn this driving s*** isn’t all fun and games.”

HBO Max is developing a reality competition show called “The Real Magic Mike.” Yes, it’s inspired by the movie and Channing Tatum is on board to produce, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be on the show. Based on the press release, ten men who’ve “lost their magic” will “bare their souls, and more, as they evolve their bodies, learn to perform spectacular routines, and develop a new level of self-confidence. As they strip, they’ll rid themselves of emotional baggage and regain their mojo.” They’ll compete for a cash prize and a chance to perform at the “Magic Mike Live” show in Vegas.

One of the most infamous moments in entertainment history was Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl Halftime Performance in 2004. Justin Timberlake joined her onstage to sing his song “Rock Your Body.” At the very end, he sings the line, “Bet I’ll have you naked by the end of this song,” and tears off part of Janet’s top, revealing her breast. Everyone said it was a “wardrobe malfunction,” and Janet took a beating in the press. But it turns out, this was all Justin’s idea! Janet’s former stylist Wayne Scot Lukas is writing a tell-all book about this moment and other “dark secrets” from the world of fashion. He told “Page Six” that he helped Janet get ready for the Super Bowl and what happened was no “wardrobe malfunction.” He said, “It was the most functioning wardrobe in history. As a stylist, it did what it was intended to do.” According to Wayne, Justin wanted to upstage his ex Britney Spears, who’d shocked him and the rest of us at the VMAs months earlier by kissing Madonna. The original idea was for Janet to wear a dress, have Justin “accidentally” step on the back of it, pulling it off to reveal she was wearing a pearl G-string underneath. For whatever reason, the plan changed to what we ended up seeing.
