Weekend box office news… AMAs recap… Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas shared his story… Mariah Carey threatening to sue James Packer… and Kanye West rants about Beyoncé and Jay Z

The new “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” won the box office this weekend, taking in $75 million. “Fantastic Beasts” is the prequel to the Harry Potter movies, inspired by the textbook used by students at Hogwarts. Coming in second was “Dr. Strange” with $17.7 million, barely beating out “Trolls” with its $17.5 million. “Arrival” landed in fourth with $11.8 million. And rounding out the top five was “Almost Christmas” with $7 million.

The list of winners from last night’s American Music Awards is too long to list. But Favorite Male and Female Artists — Pop/Rock went to Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, who made a triumphant return to the spotlight with a very moving speech. Selena admitted that she had to leave for a while because she was “absolutely broken inside.” She dedicated her award to her fans, saying she didn’t know what she did to deserve them. Zayn Malik took New Artist of the Year, and threw a little shade at his old band, One Direction, saying, “This one just says my name on it, right?” He also forgot to thank his woman, Gigi Hadid. Artist of the Year went to Ariana Grande.

Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas shared his story about battling testicular cancer on “The Doctors.” He said when he was diagnosed two years ago, all he thought about was, “Am I going to live to see my kids grow up?” He said, “In that instant, I remember telling my wife and we went into fight mode, not flight mode.” Taboo had his right testicle removed and went through chemo five days a week for six hours a day. He said it was like “war, torture and a nightmare all in one.” Taboo said he had pains for years that he chose to ignore, all while a tumor was growing inside him. He hopes his story will serve as an example to all of us to listen to our bodies and stop ignoring warning signs.

According to TMZ, Mariah Carey has not only shut down settlement negotiations with James Packer, she’s threatening to sue him! Mariah wants $50 million from James, saying he’s caused her so much distress that she was forced to cancel the South American leg of her tour. Oh yeah??? James says Mariah didn’t cancel because of him, she canceled because of poor ticket sales! Not only that, James said since they were never married, he doesn’t owe her a dime. Meantime, James wants all evidence of his existence erased from the upcoming E! show, “Mariah’s World.” Even though Mariah’s team is saying James wanted to do the show, he’s saying, Oh yeah??? I never signed a release! So E! may not have a choice in the matter.

Kanye West is obviously going through a lot right now. Saturday night at his concert in Sacramento, he started 90 minutes late, went on a rant about Beyonce, Jay Z, Hillary Clinton, the radio industry and the press for 30 minutes and then, he walked off. Show over. Rather than go through that whole rigamarole again, Kanye canceled his show last night in Inglewood. But fans seemed to be okay with that, considering they got refunds immediately. Among the tweets: “As pissed off as I am that Kanye cancelled tonight, at least I got a refund and he did it before the concert started.” And there was this: “Kanye West concert tonight has been cancelled. Ticket master just called me and refunded my money.”
