The Batman box-office update… Rachel Zegler wasn’t invited… Netflix testing a new feature… “Vanderpump Rules” reconciliation… and Kanye West’s Grammys performance axed

“The Batman” earned another $36.8M over the weekend, taking first place again at the box office and sending it over the $300M mark. Its first place status may be in trouble next weekend with the debut of Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum’s new movie “The Lost City.” Coming in second over the weekend was “Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie,” which debuted with $14.8M. Third place went to “Uncharted” with $8M. The new horror movie “X” debuted in fourth with $4.4M, and “Dog” rounded out the top five with $4.1M.

Will any of this weekend’s top five be nominated for Oscars next year? This Sunday night, we’ll find out what movies from 2021 will take home an Oscar. Just imagine that you’re the star of one of those Oscar-nominated movies and you’re not even invited to the ceremony. That’s what happened to “West Side Story” star Rachel Zegler. She wasn’t nominated for an Oscar, but the movie received 7 nominations, including Best Picture. And usually, when a movie wins Best Picture, the entire cast goes up on the stage. However, when one of her fans commented that they were excited to see what Rachel was going to wear Sunday night, She responded, “I’m not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel.” Rachel said she’s tried everything to get a ticket, but said, “….it doesn’t seem to be happening. I will root for ‘West Side Story’ from my couch … I hope some last-minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, I guess. thanks for all the shock and outrage — I’m disappointed, too. but that’s OK. So proud of our movie.” Hopefully, Rachel will receive her miracle. Meantime, sources say Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were asked to present the biggest award of the night, Best Picture. No word on whether they accepted. Sources say they were initially lined up to present the Oscar for Best Actress, which would be a nod to their work for women’s rights. But that plan got scrapped real quick when Kristen Stewart was nominated for her role in “Spencer,” playing the role of Princess Diana. And in one final piece of Harry and Meghan news, a few days ago, they announced they will not be going to London for Prince Philip’s memorial service. They said they wouldn’t feel safe without the protection of Scotland Yard in London, but the palace denied their request.

Netflix has tried before to crack down on users sharing their passwords with every-dang-body by getting them to verify their accounts in order to keep streaming. But now they’ve basically decided that if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Netflix is testing a new plan that would allow subscribers to add up to two additional users outside their households for and extra $2.99 per month. Primary account holders would then create new profiles for those users, giving them their own logins, passwords and personalized recommendations.

“Vanderpump Rules” fans were gutted last week when Tom Schwartz and Katie Maloney announced they were separating after almost 12 years together and 6 years of marriage. In Tom’s post announcing the separation, he said, “I’m not quite ready to use the “D” word because it’s too painful.” He also said Katie was the one who decided to leave. On the “You’re Going to Love Me” podcast, Katie said she and Tom had actually been separated for a little over a month, but that neither one of them had moved out of their shared home yet. Of her decision to separate, Katie explained, “I felt disconnected, I felt like I was drifting away further and further away…It was the hardest thing….to tell him because I knew it was going to crush him.” We don’t know if they’re trying to work things out or if they’re just trying to remain amicable, but paparazzi caught Tom and Katie having lunch on an outdoor patio in LA on Saturday. Tom posted a photo of Katie sipping a cocktail during their lunch date and she reposted it, adding the caption, “It’s all good.” But an eyewitness told TMZ the two of them were on their cellphones all through lunch and seemed completely disinterested in each other.”

Kanye West finally crossed the line that got him temporarily banned from Instagram. On “The Daily Show,” Trevor Noah took Kim Kardashian’s side in the ongoing drama with her ex-husband. He talked about how many women, like Kim, face harassment when they decide to leave a man. Then he shared the story of being a 9-year-old boy and watching his stepfather shoot his mother when she tried to leave him. Thankfully, she survived. And as far as Kanye justifying the claymation beheading of Pete Davidson by calling it art, Noah said, “I do understand that art can be therapy. But I also understand that therapy can be therapy.” Kanye responded with a racial slur than got him banned from Instagram for 24 hours. Then news came that Kanye was banned from performing at the Grammys due to his “concerning online behavior.” Trevor Noah happens to be hosting the Grammys, but he said he had nothing to do with Kanye’s performance being pulled. He tweeted, “I said counsel Kanye, not cancel Kanye.”
