Retired U.S. soccer champ Abby Wambach was arrested for DUI in Portland late Saturday night. After dinner at a friend’s house, Abby was driving home, ran a red light, and got pulled over. In a statement posted to her Facebook page, Abby posted an apology, saying in part, “Those that know me, know that I have always demanded excellence from myself. I have let myself and others down. I take full responsibility for my actions. This is all on me. I promise that I will do whatever it takes to ensure that my horrible mistake is never repeated.” But the damage has been done. One of Abby’s sponsors, the car brand Mini, said it was pulling all ads featuring her and they’re “re-evaluating her association with the brand.”
I thought I’d put my foot in my mouth when I asked how Sting would feel leaving wrestling behind, but at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, he announced that he’s officially retiring from pro wrestling. TMZ Sports reported that after injuring his neck in a match against Seth Rollins in September, several doctors agreed that it’s just too risky for him to get back in the ring. In his retirement speech, Sting said, “I just want you to know this isn’t goodbye, it’s just see ya later.”
The woman who claims she’s the real-life Cookie Lyon is not about to go away quietly. Just like the fake Cookie!! Sophia Eggleston has lawyered up and filed new court papers alleging that the producers of “Empire” stole the idea for Cookie from her 2009 autobiography, The Hidden Hand. She’s asking for “tens of millions of dollars” in damages. In the lawsuit, her attorney spells out 23 different characteristics and plot points stolen from his client’s book, including having a gay son and wearing feather boas. Guilty!!!!
I think it’s pretty safe to assume that Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger are calling off the divorce. Seven months after announcing their separation, they showed up together for the Juno Awards last night. Avril told Canada’s Etalk, “I came with Chad because Nickelback got nominated and I’m just here supporting him.” Chad said, “I got tired of walking around with my band members, so I went and found hottie here.”
Kesha posted on Instagram last night that Sony would release her from her contract if she would publicly apologize to Dr. Luke and say she lied about him raping her. She said, “THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors.” But Kesha said, “I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again.” Kesha has been fighting to get out of her six-album deal with Sony, but a Manhattan Supreme Court judge ruled in February that she didn’t have to work with Dr. Luke, but she had to honor her contract with the label.
