Kim Kardashian & Kanye West’s Surrogate is in Labor

Conan O’Brien settled out of court… “The Bachelorette” is back Monday night… Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom wedding… Cardi B is sold out… and Kim Kardashian & Kanye West’s surrogate is in labor

Conan O’Brien says just because he settled out of court doesn’t mean he stole another comedian’s jokes. Back in 2015 Alex Kaseberg filed a federal copyright lawsuit against Conan and his writing staff, claiming they stole jokes he’d tweeted about Caitlyn Jenner, Tom Brady and the Washington Monument. In an essay written for “Variety” Conan explained, “I will tell you what we told him, and what we subsequently swore under oath in a deposition: we had never heard of him or his blog or Twitter account, and we did not steal any of his jokes. Short of murder, stealing material is the worst thing any comic can be accused of.” He went on to say, “With over 321 million monthly users on Twitter, and seemingly 60% of them budding comedy writers, the creation of the same jokes based on the day’s news is reaching staggering numbers.” Conan even admitted that 24 years ago, he, David Letterman and Jay Leno all told the same Dan Quayle joke, but “back then, no one sued anyone because each of us knew that topical comedy often follows a pattern.” But because this has been dragging on for four years and LAWYERS ARE EXPENSIVE, Conan wrote that he, TBS and his production company decided to stop the bleeding and settle with Alex before going to trial. He said, “This saga ended with the gentleman in San Diego and I deciding to resolve our dispute amicably. I stand by every word I have written here, but I decided to forgo a potentially farcical and expensive jury trial in federal court over five jokes that don’t even make sense anymore. Four years and countless legal bills have been plenty.” To that, Alex Kaseberg tweeted. “While I am happy the case has been settled, I would like to officially apologize to HBO for leaving my coffee cup on “The Game of Thrones” table.” Yeah…..nobody’s stealing that one, Alex.

“The Bachelorette” is back Monday night with Colton Underwood reject Hannah Brown taking over the rose distribution duties. ABC used to keep everything top secret until show time, but that’s all changed thanks to people who love to spoil things on the internet. The former Miss Alabama USA 2018 is hoping she’ll find herself a husband on reality TV and she’s got 30 men willing to fake it for the cameras. The group includes a math teacher, a couple of pilots, a pro surfer, a pro golfer and an international pro basketball player. You’ve also got a car auctioneer, a singer/songwriter, a real estate broker and one who’s unemployed. But the one everybody is talking about is Matteo Valles — a management consultant who has 114 children, thanks to his side gig as a sperm donor. (And this is NOT the same guy we interviewed a few months ago!)

Radar Online is reporting that Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are butting heads over the upcoming wedding. Their source says Katy wants an elaborate wedding with “a massive guest list and a reception at a super fancy and expensive venue.” Some are saying she’d love to have it inside Cinderella’s Castle at Disney World! Orlando, on the other hand, wants to keep it very low key. How low? Try googling his wedding to Miranda Kerr and see what you come up with. I’ll save you the trouble — NOTHING. We don’t know when or where or who was there, but it happened sometime in July 2010. But if you remember Katy’s wedding to Russell Brand, it was an over-the-top Bollywood extravaganza in India, complete with elephants!

Cardi B’s second collection with Fashion Nova practically sold out in its first 24 hours, reportedly earning her over one million dollars! Because her first collection was so successful, Fashion Nova reportedly prepared for Cardi’s spring/summer line by having almost five times the inventory. It still wasn’t enough! Nasdaq congratulated her on the accomplishment with their huge digital billboard in Times Square.

Kris Jenner taped her appearance on Ellen’s talk show yesterday, but it will air today. For the Mother’s Day episode, Ellen surprised Kris by having Kourtney come out with six of Kris’ nine grandkids. But Kourtney had the bigger surprise. She told her mom that the reason Kim couldn’t be there was because her surrogate was in labor! As of the writing of the Showbiz Top 5, we still haven’t received word that the baby boy has arrived.
