Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl halftime performance

Weekend box office news… Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey Circus’ big announcement… Has Lindsay Lohan converted to Islam?… The all-star “Ocean’s Eight”… and Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl halftime performance

I went to the dollar movie over the holiday weekend, but other people decided to pay full price to see the newer stuff at the movie theaters. And coming in first among the newer stuff was “Hidden Figures,” earning $20.45 million to hold on to the top spot for a second weekend. Coming in was “La La Land” with $14.5 million. “Sing” was in third with $13.8 million. “Rogue One” was barely behind that with $13.7 million. Rounding out the top five was “The Bye Bye Man” with $13.4 million. And, since J-Si asked, the new movie “Monster Trucks,” which he affectionately calls “The Booger Truck Movie,” opened in seventh with $10.5 million.

Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey Circus announced that after 146 years, their May 21st show in Uniondale, NY, will be their last. Animal rights activists are rejoicing because they know they had a lot to do with this, and some animal-loving celebrities are letting their delight in this news be known. PETA activist Pamela Anderson tweeted, “IT’S OVER!” And Seth MacFarlane tweeted, “The closure of Ringling Bros. circus ends 146 years of animal humiliation for human amusement. Good riddance.” And Ricky Gervais tweeted, “A victory for humanity. Next, we #EmptyTheTanks!” That’s a movement to release all the captive marine mammals back into the wild. But not all celebrities are celebrating. Jay Mohr is worried about the 2500 unemployed clowns who will be left roaming the streets…

Has Lindsay Lohan converted to Islam? Over the weekend, she deleted all her Instagram photos and replaced her bio with the Arabic phrase, “Alaikum Salam,” which means “And peace unto you.” Lindsay hasn’t confirmed a conversion, but it looks like she’s been interested in the religion for a while now. A couple years ago, she was seen carrying a Qur’an while doing her community service work in Brooklyn.

Did the all-girls version of “Ghostbusters” teach us nothing?? They’re actually going through with the all-female version of “Ocean’s Eleven,” with this one titled “Ocean’s Eight.” The all-star cast includes Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Rianna, and… Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner! The two of them filmed their cameos yesterday, shooting the movie’s Met Gala scene. Last week, Katie Holmes was spotted filming a cameo as herself. Back in November, Matt Damon said he’d be making an appearance in “Ocean’s Eight,” playing his pickpocket-turned-crew leader, Linus Caldwell.

Lady Gaga is rehearsing her little heart out ahead of her Super Bowl halftime performance. She’s even put up a giant tent with a huge dance floor in her back yard so she and her dancers can get in as much practice as possible. Meantime, Page Six is reporting that Gaga wants to sing from the roof of the NRG Stadium in Houston and then be lowered to the stage on the field, which has lawyers and technicians trying to figure out how that can possibly happen.
