MTV VMAS viewership… The Emmy Awards return… Lady Gaga acknowledges infamous Facebook page… Halsey is engaged… and Lil Wayne makes his first public comments
The ratings for the MTV VMAs bumped up a little this year. According to Nielsen, 4.08M of us tuned in to the original telecast and the two encore airings. That’s up about 8% from last year and it’s the biggest audience the VMAs have had in four years. According to Paramount, the VMAs received 66.7M social media interactions — including from the one and only Britney Spears who thought Sabrina Carpenter kissing an alien was weird. That’s the most social medial interactions ever for the VMAs.

The delayed 75th anniversary of the Emmy Awards was held in January, but we’re back on track for the 76th annual ceremony this Sunday night on ABC, hosted for the first time by a father and son, Eugene and Dan Levy. Back in January, the audience loved the cast reunions from some of our favorite TV shows, like Martin, Cheers and Ally McBeal, so expect more of that this Sunday night. In addition to some cast reunions, producers will also bring back some iconic stars and their characters, past and present. For instance, we’ll see famous TV moms like Meredith Baxter from Family Ties, cops like Jimmy Smits from NYPD Blue, and doctors like Zach Braff from Scrubs. In honor of the 50th anniversary of Happy Days, Ron Howard and Henry Winkler will reminisce about those days on a re-created set of Arnold’s Drive-In. They will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live and the 25th anniversary of The West Wing, but there reportedly won’t be a 30th anniversary celebration of Friends.

Back when she was known as Stefani Germanotta, Lady Gaga was a student at NYU’s Tech School of the Arts. some of her fellow students obviously eaten up with hate and envy started a private Facebook group called “Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous.” Someone discovered the now-closed group page, posted it on TikTok, and it went viral. Lady Gaga herself saw it and commented, “Some people I went to college w made this way back when this is why you can’t give up when people doubt you or put you down—gotta keep going.”
Lady Gaga weighed in on a post calling out a now-deleted Facebook group called “Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous," which was created by classmates during her time at NYU.

On the red carpet of the VMAs, Halsey mentioned to a reporter than she hoped to marry Avan Jogia one day. Pop Base posted the story on X, tagging Halsey and Avan. Halsey then posted in the comments, “***fiancé Avan Jogia.” So I guess sometime between the red carpet and the X post, Halsey and Avan decided to make it official?

With the next Super Bowl being held in New Orleans, everyone assumed native son Lil Wayne would be named as the halftime performer…..including Lil Wayne. But this past weekend, it was announced that Kendrick Lamar would be headlining, which caused a a lot of backlash and sent Weezy into a spiral. He hopped on Instagram live and said, “I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown, and for just automatically mentally putting myself in that position. I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, that platform, in my city…So it hurt, it hurt a whole lot, but y’all are (BLANKING) amazing. It made me feel like s*** not getting this opportunity, and when I felt like s***, you guys reminded me that I ain’t s*** without y’all. And that’s an amazing reality. It broke me, and I’m just trying to put me back together, but my God have you all helped me. Thanks to all my peers, my friends, my family, my homies on sports television and everybody repping me, I really appreciate that. I really do. I feel like I let all of y’all down by not getting that opportunity, but I’m working on me. And I’m working. So, thank you.” Hopefully, Kendrick, Jay-Z and the NFL will do the right thing here and we’ll see Lil Wayne on that Super Bowl stage in February.
