Jordan Peele’s new movie “Nope” starring Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer debuted at number one at the box office with $44M. Just to compare, Jordan’s directorial debut “Get Out” opened with $33.7M in 2017. Two years later, “Us” opened with $71.1M. Coming in second at the box office was “Thor: Love and Thunder” with $22.1M. “Minions: The Rise of Gru” was third with $17.7M, followed by “Where the Crawdads Sing” with $10.3M and “Top Gun: Maverick” with $10M.

A couple of blasts from the past are getting a new life. Back in the 70s, there was a TV show called “The Love Boat” with Captain Stubing, Julie the Cruise Director, Isaac the Bartender and Gopher the Purser, even though I don’t know what a purser does….It’s one of the TV shows that made Aaron Spelling a bazillionaire. Now CBS is resurrecting the show as “The Real Love Boat.” Husband and wife Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn will host this dating adventure series where a group of singles spend a month cruising the Mediterranean hoping to find true love. It premiers on Oct. 5. And a “Who’s the Boss” sequel is happening! The show initially ran from 1984-1992 on ABC. Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano are back as father and daughter. For the sequel, Alyssa’s character Samantha is a single mom living in the same house as the original sitcom, and her dad Tony will live there, too….as the nanny? Unclear. The series is currently in development for Amazon’s Freevee streaming platform.

On Friday, we found out Amber Heard had filed to appeal the verdict in the Johnny Depp defamation trial. Johnny was awarded $10.35M and Amber won $2M in her countersuit, meaning she owes “$8.35M that she doesn’t have. Every legal expert who’s been asked says Amber doesn’t have a chance of winning her appeal, but Johnny isn’t just going to do nothing while we wait to find out. His lawyers have now filed the paperwork to appeal the $2M judgment against him! A source close to Johnny told “People” that Johnny “believes it is time for both parties to move on with their lives and heal… But if Ms. Heard is determined to pursue further litigation by appealing the verdict, Mr. Depp is filing a concurrent appeal to ensure that the full record and all relevant legal issues are considered by the Court of Appeal.”

In a new TikTok, JoJo Siwa exposed a few celebrities She captioned a few shots with a title like “Rudest Celeb” and “Celeb Crush.” Then she quickly turns her phone towards the camera with a picture of the celebrity answer. Fans downloaded the video and slowed it down, and revealed her answers.

  • Rudest Celeb: Candace Cameron Bure
  • Celeb Crush: Zendaya
  • Nicest Celeb: Miley Cyrus
  • Coolest Celeb: Elton John
  • Celeb That Did Her Dirty: Spongebob Squarepants (This could be a dig at Nickelodeon.)

The San Diego Comic Con is the biggest in the country and they just had their biggest one in two years over the weekend. This is where all the major studios make big announcements and throw out some huge surprises. There were rumors that Henry Cavill was set to make an appearance to announce he will play Superman again, but he was a no show. But during his “Black Adam” panel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was asked who would win between Black Adam and Superman and said, “It depends on who is playing Superman.” The crowd booed him because they thought he was saying the role of Superman is still up in the air. Dwayne also appeared in his full Black Adam suit while floating in the air surrounded by thunder and lightning. Marvel announced a ton of projects that will be released this fall through the end of 2025. The biggest news is there will be two “Avengers” movies released just six months apart. “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” will debut on May 2, 2025, followed by “Avengers: Secret Wars” on Nov. 7, 2025.
