George Michael has won… TV/movie happenings… Celebrity relationship roundup… Coronation Concert update… and Met Gala 2023 highlights

Fan voting is now closed and with just over a million votes, George Michael is the fan favorite to join this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Coming in second was Cyndi Lauper with 928K votes, followed by Warren Zevon with 634K. Iron Maiden is fourth in the fan vote with just shy of 450K, and Soundgarden rounds out the top five with 427K votes. Winning the fan vote doesn’t mean George Michael is automatically inducted in the Hall of Fame, but he has an excellent shot. All but one of the previous five fan vote winners have ended up getting in, with the exception of the Dave Matthews Band. They didn’t make it despite winning the 2020 fan vote. They’re still waiting. The official inductees for the 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be announced tomorrow.

In movie news, Hugh Grant will play an Oompa Loompa in Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming “Willy Wonka” movie. Vin Diesel announced the final installment in the “Fast & Furious” franchise will be split into 2 movies, with Part 1 coming this summer and Part 2 in 2025. And in streaming news, you can now watch the docuseries “Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed” on Peacock. Former Menudo member Roy Rosselló claims that when he was 14, he went to the NJ home of music executive Jose Menendez, who drugged and raped him. Jose is the father of Lyle and Erik Menendez, who murdered their parents, claiming they’d been sexually abused by their dad for years. Ryan Murphy has chosen the Menendez brothers’ story for Season 2 of his “Monster” anthology series on Netflix. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will tell the story of the brothers, who were convicted in 1996 of killing their parents. They claimed they had suffered a lifetime of abuse, and shot them because they feared for their lives. But they still got life without parole. There’s no word on casting yet. Netflix is also doing a Menendez brothers documentary based on their “exclusive access” to Lyle and Erik.

In news your granny will get excited about, Cher is 76 and single! She and her 37-year-old boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards have broken up. They were first photographed holding hands during a date night back in November. On Christmas Day, Cher posted a photo of a huge pear-shaped diamond with the caption, “THERE R NO WORDS, ALEXANDER,A.E,” which led to speculation they’d gotten engaged. But sources say that was never the case, and now the relationship has run its course. And in other AARP news, Aerosmith has announced their farewell tour. They’re calling it the “Peace Out Tour” and tickets go on sale Friday. The tour kicks off Sept. 2 in Philly and — 40 shows later — wraps up Jan 26 in Montreal. With Katy Perry and Lionel Richie performing at King Charles’ Coronation Concert on Sunday, Alanis Morissette and Ed Sheeran will fill in for them on Sunday night’s live episode of “American Idol.” Alanis will serve as a mentor for the contestants, who will be performing songs from Alanis’ repertoire. Both Alanis and Ed will perform, as well. Ed will be flying in from Dallas, where his “Subtraction” tour kicks off Saturday night. The album drops on Friday.

The fashion was fun, but what about the hookups? Even though Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t attend the Met Gala, he hit up one of the after-parties. Gigi Hadid did a quick change and joined Leo there. Even though there were reports that their romance had fizzled out, sources say the two of them still get together when their schedules permit. Irina Shayk was photographed talking to her ex Bradley Cooper inside the Met Gala, but she hooked up with Chris Rock at the after-party. Even though they arrived at the Gala separately, Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny left the hotel together to hit up the after-party. And she may be in her last trimester, but Rihanna wasn’t too pooped to keep partying after the Met Gala. Based on what she wore to the event, a lot of people think she and A$AP Rocky were hinting that they secretly got married.
