Weekend box office news… “The Simpsons” 30th season… Joe Jonas is rebounding with Sophie Turner… Justin Bieber’s NYE VIP package… and Michael Buble’s three-year-old son has cancer
Three new movies sat at the top of the box office this weekend. The latest comic-book-turned-movie “Dr. Strange” is number one at the box office, taking in $85 million in its opening weekend. That was almost double the debut of “Trolls,” when took in $45.6 million. Mel Gibson’s new war movie, “Hacksaw Ridge” debuted in third with $14.8 million. After two weeks at number one, “Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween” fell to fourth with $7.8 million. And coming in fifth was Tom Hanks’ “Inferno” with $6.3 million.
“The Simpsons” debuted on Fox way back in 1989. And, believe it or not, the show still brings in solid ratings for the network, which is why it just got renewed for an unprecedented 29th and 30th seasons! So by the end of the 30th season, “The Simpsons” will have 669 episodes in the can, giving it the largest number of episodes for any scripted television show. The current record is held by “Gunsmoke” with its 635 episodes.
They only dated for five months but it stung a little — or maybe a lot — when Gigi Hadid dumped him for Zayn Malik. But Joe Jonas is rebounding quite nicely with “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner. They celebrated Halloween together with Joe dressing as a dalmation and Sophie as a bunny. And the two of them caught the Kings of Leon concert together in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Saturday night. They were seen kissing and cuddling throughout the night.
Justin Bieber is performing in Miami for NYE and he’s offering a very special VIP package. For half a million dollars, you and 9 of your friends get a five night stay in the penthouse of the Fountainebleau, which includes comped dinners and poolside cabana service. You’ll also get free use of exotic cars like Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Rolls-Royces. You’ll be yachted over to a club where you’ll get a meet-and-greet with somebody named Marshmello and you’ll have a private escort to the NYE after-party hosted by Skrillex. And then as you recover on New Year’s Day, you get a complimentary Bloody Mary bar, and in-suite chef, and 2 hours of spa treatments. This Justin Bieber VIP package is really cool and if you split it among 9 of your friends, BUT! There’s no promise that you’ll actually meet Justin.
Michael Bublé and his wife Luisana are asking for our prayers and respect for their privacy after revealing their 3-year-old son is battling cancer. Michael released a statement on Facebook saying, “We are devastated by the recent cancer diagnosis of our eldest son Noah who is currently in treatment in the United States. Luisana and I have put our careers on hold in order to devote all our time and attention to helping Noah get well.”
