The nominees for the “MTV Video Music Awards” were announced yesterday. Justin Bieber leads with seven, including Artist of the Year. Megan Thee Stallion follows with six nominations, also including Artist of the Year. For that award, Justin and Megan are going up against Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift. The biggest award of the night is Video of the Year. Nominees for that one are “WAP” by Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion; “Kiss Me More” by Doja Cat and SZA; “Popstar” by DJ Khaled ft. Drake with a special appearance by Justin Bieber; “Bad Habits” by Ed Sheeran; “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” by Lil Nas X; and “Save Your Tears” by The Weeknd. Voting is now open at VMA.MTV.com. The ceremony will be held on Sunday, September 12, in Brooklyn.

Mindy Kaling and Amazon Studios are making a Muslim version of the classic romantic comedy “You’ve Got Mail.” In that 1998 movie, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan fall in love over email, but didn’t realize at the time that Meg was the owner of an independent bookstore and Tom was trying to put her out of business. And what you may not know is that “You’ve Got Mail” was actually a remake of a 1940 film called “The Shop Around the Corner.” And now Mindy’s version — a remake of a remake! — will be based on the book Hana Khan Carries On. It’s about two competent Halal restaurants down the street from each other in Toronto. One is a family business where the main character Hana works. The other is a large commercial chain restaurant.

Last year Jason Mamoa met a boy named Danny Sheehan who went viral after having an over-the-top reaction to getting an Aquaman toy. Danny had been diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2017. When Jason saw the video, he loved it so much that he reached out and met Danny over FaceTime. Jason also shared the family’s GoFundMe page and sent Danny some cool Aquaman swag, including a life-sized trident! Sadly, Danny has passed away. He was only 8 years old. Jason shared the news on his Instagram and said he will be dedicating “Aquaman 2” to Danny.

Olivia Rodrigo is one of the celebrities featured in the “Power of Young Hollywood” issue of “Variety. She said she wasn’t prepared for the reaction her song “Drivers License” received and now fans tried to pit her and Sabrina Carpenter against each other. Olivia said, “I don’t really subscribe to hating other women because of boys. I think that’s so stupid, and I really resent that narrative that was being tossed around.” She loves it when women support women, and talks about how Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez have both been huge encouragements to her.

Apparently, it takes two people to fill the shoes of Alex Trebek. Yesterday it was announced that executive producer Mike Richards is the new host of the daytime version of “Jeaopardy!” Mayim Bialik will host the primetime spinoff specials, including the upcoming National College Championship. Mayim didn’t just play a smart person on “Big Bang Theory.” She holds a PhD in neuroscience from UCLA.
